David watched as the cameras flashed behind the frosted glass doors and felt himself tremble. He was not one for attentions and prying eyes made him shiver his world was not for others. The royal family was already in the hall and David was glad he felt like an intruder in this palace one that was not welcome at all. A hand suddenly fell on his shoulder and he flinched, and then there was a soft chuckle "Its just me," Jack whispered in his ear and David tried hard not to shiver at the princes touch. "Be ready the doors are about to open and all your adoring fans just want a piece of you," David knew Jack was mocking him but couldn't bring himself to care- his soft voice was all David could think about. "three..two...one..."
The doors slid open by guards outside and the photographers crammed in yelling questions, whci David tried to answer
"David,"
"David over here,"
"Yes, here David,"
"David how does it feel to be a Hero David?"
"How do your family feel about you living in the palace?"
"Is it true you are Prince Jack's companion now?"
David stumbled back unable to comprehend anyone voice or question "Ummm..."
Jack's hand was back keeping him upright as he fumbled, "Easy there Hero, enjoy yourself you are the Hero of the hour the newspapers will be filled with your pretty face." With that he winked and turned to face the cameras soaking in the attention and beaming at the camerashe knew how to play his part David thought with envy. David was lost at what to do he was a simple foot solider in a place filled with people who had been acting their entire life.
"Relax David! This is your night."
"But I don't want the attention" he knew he sounded like a child but the lights where making him feel dizzy.
"i've notice" Jack muttered dryly." Alright ladies and gentleman i'm taking the Hero to his banquet now," Jack commanded the hungry beast with flashlights. "George if you will Kindly escort the VIP photographers for this evening inside" A guard saluted and David was turned away from the wolves who wanted his secrets.

The hall was huge and filled with beautiful people with political power, the gold wallpaper danced in the candlelight from hundreds of candles decorating the room. everyone stopped talking as David stepped into the room as surreptitiously as possible, however the King began to clap as he entered. David immediately felt his face flush with embarrassment as the crowd began to follow the King's lead.
"And finally here he is the man we have all been waiting for. Here have a seat next to Michael." The King sat at the head of the table with his Queen to his left and Michael on his right. The hall watched as he made his way over to the empty seat next to the Prince. The chatter began as he sat down and food was placed in front of him. The beef was rich and poorer with red wine it was better than anything David had ever tasted and for a moment he finally let himself relax before Michael said "So how did you do it? How did you kill Goliath?"
"Micheal don't be rude at the dinner table."
"Mother i'm asking a simple question I want to know." Michael and Jack were twins and the hair to the throne was always in high debate, despite this David knew that the brother got on and depended on one another.
"You have seen the picture right?" Michael nodded his food forgotten. "The tanks are on timers they fire every 17 minuets not at anything just a show of strength so I knew when it was safe to go, it was all luck I'm not the hero everybody thinks I am" David whispered softly.
"Nonsense. It was a true act of bravery what you did and you deserve all the praise for the action." the kIng said leaning closer to David, and despite himself David grinned stupidly. He couldn't help it the Kings mood was infectious no wonder the city of Saturn adored their King.

Jack was bored and he tried hard not to show it. The shuffling of his feet and the warning glances his mother kept throwing at him were the only signs. He stifled another yawn just as the doors opened and Goliath's slayer walked in. Jack noticed David immediately and all traces of weariness left him. He saw that David was not used to the palace environment, he shrunk from the government watching him as he entered the throne room. The palace was the tallest skyscraper in the whole city right in the centre, the mecca of Saturn, and David had been aloud to enter. However Jack could tell that this hero wanted to run, not face a crowd of hundreds and the King with eyes as piecing as Dragons fire. Jack smirked as David gulped, but with his head held high he strolled down the length of the hall. The royal guard presented this Hero to my father, and Jack watched with cold eyes as he knelt by his fathers feet. Jack stood to the left of the King while Michael, his brother, stood on his mothers right. Jack knew that to David this family was intimidating power streamed off them like heat waves, dressed in his military uniform Jack knew that he was a fierce figure of royalty in font of this peasant boy.
Then Jack's father spoke with a voice that boomed around the great hall. Jack had to hide a grin as David almost trembled he had fought Saturn's enemy single handed so the news papers told but here this man was afraid of his own King.
"David, Son of Jessy, the Hero of the hour, the slayer of the legendary Goliath has graced us with his presence." The audience laughed and Jack noticed a fait blush colour David's cheeks- Jack wasn't surprised to see that David found praise difficult to take. "So David how shall we reward this huge act of bravery that pushed Dath back to their borders and kept victory ours for another day?"
Silence
"Has nobody from my government got any ideas how to reward a peasant boy?" The King waited but no one wanted to step out of line, no peasant of no nobel birth had ever been rewarded. "My Son have you any suggestions?" The king looked to Jack with an expecting smile.
Jack hesitated studding David kneeling in front of his father his head lowered respectfully "Promote him Captain, Captain Roeh, the Blessed I believe," Jack winked mockingly at his brother. Then David looked up and met his eyes and everything shifted. Jack's arrogant smile slid from his face as he stared. The hall vanished around them and somehow it was just the two of them. Jack was not the Prince and David was not just a foot solider, he was just Jack with David kneeling at his feet. Davids golden hair created a halo around his head and his eyes were full of an innocence not found in the palace walls it made Jack want to protect this solider from the horrors of the world.
"Excellent idea Jack," his father broke him from his stance with a clap on the back and the arrogant look of contempt founds its way back to Jack. "I also think Jack you need a companion your last one, oh what was his name?"
"Simon" Jack said stiffly a lump forming in his throat, do not dwell a voice commanded.
"yes Simon, what a shame. I believe David should stay with us for a while be your companion until this war with Dath is over."
"Yes father" Jack said stonily, glaring at his brother who was making faces behind his mothers throne at him. He knew what Micheal was thinking a peasant for a companion what was his father thinking. But David intrigued him and he would never let what happened to Simon ever happen again, he had sworn to God.
"You are dismissed take your hero of the hour and be ready for the celebrations later this evening. The jury is dismissed." His father rose and with it the hall as well. Jack saluted his father and marched from the room signalling David to follow him.The two men walked in silence through the labyrinth that made up the palace.
"My Lord I am sorry to have..."
"Its David, right?"
"Yes My Lord." Servants bowed and guards saluted as we passed but Jack gave them no notice, Jack was too focused on the man behind him. He smelt of oil and travel but under their was a sharp scent of spices and desert that seemed to cling to David very essence.
"I know you do not want to be here David," Jack said more gently that he had intended. "But I shall talk to my father if you like and can send you back to wherever, I do not need another companion." Jacks words were met with silence from the man wh strode besides him.
" I do not mean to be a burden My lord, And I do feel as though it is my duty to go back to the front lines. However The King has granted me this reward and I feel as though it would dishonour him if I were to refuse. I am here to serve the King and the Royal family to the best of my abilities." Jack stopped in the hall and David did also,
"I do not need a companion but I can get you out there to serve the war I leave in two weeks I will get my the officers to take you out also." Jack carried on walking again not waiting for an answer until he found the door too his living quarters. "Here you are home sweet home, for the next few weeks. Take a shower the journey must have been a long one."
"Thank you, My lord."
"Jack, My names Jack." he said as he through a towel at David who was making his way to the bathroom.
"Thanks" David said as he grabbed the towel and Jack saw the man he was outside of the oppressing palace walls.
"thats better" Jack said quietly as the door slid shut behind the now naked form of his new companion.

Jacks living quarters were all glass looking out over the skyline of the city Saturn. Jack watched the port as he listened to the running water of the shower thinking about his last companion. The lump formed again, he could not let David fall into the same trap that had ensnared Simon. He would hide himself, he would create a mask, a mask that hid all things good and redeemable about himself. Jack smirked as he heard David humming softly to himself something Jack vaguely knew Beethoven's Moonlight sonata. Instead of grabbing a servant Jack went through his draws to find something small enough to fit David. Jack himself was wide and muscular while David was lean and defined, he knew this from the quick glance he had seen of David as he gone to the shower. His body was brown from the sun of the outside and lean from battle combat in the war zone, he was beautiful. Jack swallowed and kept searching until he found a pair of back trousers and a blouse he used to wear to the banquets when he was a few years younger. he placed the garments on the bed and opened up his mac book pro, skimming the pages on the news channel about the fight with Giliath, until the door to the shower opened illuminating the now dark room.
"The servants left you some clothes on the bed put them on we will have to go down soon."
"My L... I mean Jack these clothes are not right, these are the fabrics for royalty."
Jack turned his chair round as he shut his laptop, "My father must want you to wear them or he wouldn't have sent the servant now put them on and don't worry so much," Jack finished gently.

This is a story about a boy names David and His lover Jack. When we first meet David he is a Mechanic out in the countryside far away from the city. His world was filled with the sound of sick engines and the scent of oil that clings to your clothes. This world was David comfort and the sound of clanging and coughing engines kept David happy but not fulfilled. However today, May the 14th, would change destiny for David. Vicar Samuel's car hacked and rattled down the sandy lane towards the garage where David worked. We must ask ourselves, was it coincidence that Samuel would find this garage, at this time, when David was on shift - for these men would become lifelong friends and seek one anthers assistance. However I am looking to far ahead of myself, as on this day David was still only seventeen, and had not seen the horrors of war that were to come and take the lives of his brothers. On this day, the 14th of May to be precise, the day was warm with sun and the breeze called with possibility. David watched the black Jaguar, a car never seen out in the village of HinDale, with fascination. As it pulled into the garage it looked odd next to the beat up Golfs and dying Volkswagens, a slender beast next to junk. David was weary as he approached the car, a handsome black man came out of the car wearing the uniform of the cities vicars. Vicar Samuel served the garage with a confidence that was also hard to find in the village of HinDale, a confidence that assured the watcher that this man belonged, this man has seen the world and knew where he stood and what his place was. He was completely different from the other vicars that David had met in his village, the ones he knew where old and chanted passages about past and dark times to come.
"Sir?" David asked. Samuel looked at him with dark brown eyes that seemed to see into David, see through him to things that lay beneath.
"Something is wrong with the car" he smiled then, "obvious I know but I have never been good with machinery my hands lay with nature." The vicars voice was warm and reassuring and held a slight smile.
"I understand sir, I'm good with cars," David knew he sounded stilted and awkward but beside this man who to him seemed more God-like then any man he knew he found words difficult to find. David lifted the hood of the car and studied the interact engine inside. He saw the problem almost immediately, turing swiftly he found the blue tape on the side and in less that ten minuets the engine was purring again.
"Sir,"David called the vicar over where he was chatting pleasantly with the manager.
"Is it done already?"
"Yes Sir, it was just a trick with a vowel."
"I'll take your word for it," Samuel said happily, as he reached for his wallet, but David stopped him.
"Sir, I cannot take your money for a piece of tape."
"But I must pay you something for your time" he replied and reached inside of his shirt for a pendant that rested on his chest. "Here take this, it was a gift from our King and let this keep you safe." The pendant was a solid gold eagle, its wings outstretched on either side. it was the symbol of the city- the city of Saturn and it must have cost more that Davids house and lands put together. He could not accept it, it was far to much.
"Sir..." but as David started to protest the vicar gave him a piercing glare.
"I'm giving it to you David so that one day we will meet again." he nodded and it wasn't until the man had driven away that he realised that he had never introduced himself.

Eight Years Later
Jack screamed until his lungs burned "Father No! Don't do this! You don't understand, please don't do this."
The guards held the kings son as he struggled sobbing to his father to let David go. However the Kings was unmoved staring to where David was tired to the post the firing squad in position.
"Jack when will you learn that actions have consequences."
"I've learnt I understand please just not David, please not David."
"Make him watch" the guards forced his head back in the direction of the firing squad.
please God don't let David die, please I beg you
And the shots were fired.
