Why host Hermes with PrimeClaws?

🐍

Hermes stack, not a science project

We install the Hermes agent under your user, configure config.yaml for our gateway, and run hermes gateway with sane defaults—so you are not stitching Python paths by hand.

🖥️

Web UI included

Hermes ships with a WebUI experience (Open WebUI–based) for chat, files, and day-to-day control. We bring it up as a service and forward the right port so it is reachable when you need it.

🛡️

Same operations culture as the rest of PrimeClaws

Discord support, billing, and service management live in the same dashboard you already use. Hermes is a first-class product here—not an afterthought on a generic VPS page.

What you get on a Hermes instance

Everything below is about Hermes only. For OpenClaw-specific channels and workflows, see our main OpenClaw landing page.

Hermes gateway (API)

The hermes gateway process runs under systemd with API server settings aligned to your instance key—ready for tools and automation that speak Hermes.

Hermes WebUI

Browser dashboard for prompts, uploads, and quick checks—started as a dedicated service and paired with socat so public ports land where Hermes expects them.

Model routing via PrimeClaws

We point Hermes at our provider base URL and model slug during provisioning so the included frontier models (during the offer) or your BYOK path work through one consistent stack.

Clean hand-off from template

Installer stops conflicting agents, frees the shared gateway port when needed, and enables Hermes units in the right order—so first boot is boring in the good way.

Hermes upstream, installed the supported way

We follow the official Hermes install script from NousResearch and pin refs we test—no mystery tarballs, no "works on my laptop" drift.

Support that knows the difference

Hermes issues (WebUI, gateway, Python env) are different from OpenClaw (Node/Docker). Our team routes you with the right checklist instead of generic "reboot the box" advice.

What is managed Hermes hosting?

Hermes is an autonomous AI agent from NousResearch. In practice you run a Python environment with the Hermes CLI, a gateway for API access, and usually a WebUI for humans. That is more moving parts than "drop a single binary and walk away"—especially when you want always-on uptime, TLS at the edge, and safe updates.

What sits on the VM?

A typical PrimeClaws Hermes footprint includes the user-local install under ~/.hermes/, a hermes.service for the gateway, hermes-webui.service for the dashboard, and hermes-socat.service to bridge the forwarded host port to the WebUI listener. You interact through the customer dashboard plus the Web UI—not through undocumented cron jobs.

Why people rent a VPS for Hermes

Hermes shines when it can answer asynchronously: long-running tasks, webhook-style triggers, and background workflows. Laptops sleep; homelabs lose power. A VPS buys always-on reachability—but you still own patching unless someone manages the box for you.

What "managed" means here

We own the install path, service wiring, and first-line health checks you would otherwise do over SSH. You still control prompts, skills, and data inside Hermes—but you are not on call for every distro security update.

Self-hosting Hermes yourself?
Here is where the weekend goes.

Python, services, ports, and upgrades—each harmless alone, together they eat your calendar.

📦

Dependency drift

venv upgrades, CUDA-less CPU builds, and "why is pip angry today?" moments. Hermes is friendly once running—getting there across distros is the tax.

🔌

Two dashboards, one brain

You need the WebUI healthy and the gateway healthy. Mis-order startups or a stale port forward and you get a page that loads while the agent never answers—or the opposite.

🔄

Silent updates

Upstream Hermes and WebUI both move. Without a disciplined update story you either freeze and miss fixes, or yolo-pull and hope your data survives.

Hermes AI Agent — FAQ

Answers on this page are Hermes-only. OpenClaw questions belong on the main landing page.

What is the Hermes AI agent?

Hermes is an open-source autonomous agent from NousResearch. You run a Python-based hermes CLI with a gateway for API access and typically pair it with a WebUI for chat and files. PrimeClaws automates that install on your VPS and keeps the services aligned.

Is this page only about Hermes?

Yes. Copy, FAQs, and feature callouts here intentionally avoid OpenClaw-specific flows. For OpenClaw hosting positioning, use the main portal.

How do I use the Hermes Web UI?

After provisioning, open the forwarded URL from your service card (same pattern as our other agents). The WebUI runs as hermes-webui.service and is bridged with socat to the public port slot on your VM.

Which models work with Hermes on PrimeClaws?

During the limited-time launch offer, the same frontier models bundle described on the main site is available for eligible Hermes plans with a capped request allowance—plus you can bring your own key to any OpenAI-compatible endpoint when you want full control.

How is my Hermes data kept private?

Your Hermes install lives on your VM with dedicated disk. PrimeClaws does not mine your prompts; export or delete data from the instance the same way you would on a server you own—we just remove the yak-shaving to get there.

Do I need Docker for Hermes?

Hermes on PrimeClaws is provisioned as systemd-managed Python services, not the Docker-centric path we use for OpenClaw. If you specifically want containers, talk to us—but default Hermes is the upstream-friendly install.

Can I migrate an existing Hermes install?

Yes, in the same spirit as other agents: copy your ~/.hermes state, environment expectations, and WebUI data with a plan. Our support can give a sensible checklist—expect a short maintenance window when moving gateways between IPs.

Where do I get help for Hermes-specific errors?

Start in our Discord with logs from hermes.service and hermes-webui.service. Those two units tell most of the story: WebUI up but gateway down, or gateway up but model routing misconfigured.
