The Showcase is named after former Allegany County Jail Correction Officer Daniel J. Barkley Jr. Dan was a graduate of Richburg High School and Alfred State College, also serving in the United States Navy during Desert Storm. Dan was a lifelong member of Allegany County and involved in many activities throughout the county including being a life member and third assistant fire chief at the Richburg Fire Company. Dan always put family first and was an avid Nascar fan, he also enjoyed fishing and hunting.

This event is about more than sports as it offers many Partners for Prevention in Allegany County(PPAC) partners to set up information tables about the activities that they provide to the community. These organizations have included: Allegany Council on Alcoholism and Substance Abuse, Inc.(ACASA) Cattaraugus Community Action, Family Matters, Partners for Prevention in Allegany County(PPAC), Reality Check, and STOP DWI in previous years.
