Sometimes, I understand misanthropes...
Other times, I just am one.
... which is fabulous.

In other news, this knitting lesbian wants to knit something for her non-knitting lesbian best friend, and cannot find the pattern she seeks.
I had sketched out a plan and made a prototype of a shrug for Bexy, but upon seeing something on Knitty.com, and someone else's interpretation of it on a loom here I decided it could be effectively modified into a 'convertible.' Now, I can accomplish this conversion myself, but the original pattern had some lovely pictures of different ways to wear the garment. I'd like to print them out as an accompaniment to the shrug.

ETA: Found it! I decided to give google one last shot, and it did it! YAY!

I need advice! Has anyone dealt with caffeine addiction/withdrawal?

I'm making my second serious attempt to give the stuff up, and it is not going well. We are only in hour 12, and the headache is KILLING me.
I need to succeed in this. I drink 4-5 sodas a day (if not more in stressful times) & I firmly believe the high fructose corn syrup is going to eventually do something awful to me. Also, it's really just too much sugar, and too much money to pay for sugar water every day.

Does anyone have any advice? Coping techniques? Quick and easy ways to hang oneself? I'm dying over here.

ETA: Good God, I whine a lot. :-/

"My fellow Earthicans, as I describe in my book, Earth in the Balance, and the more popular, Harry Potter and the Balance of Earth, we need to protect our environment against global warming and dark wizards."

Al Gore, Futurama, the episode playing right this minute.

Last night Bexy and I were lamenting my lack of a hot butch.

So, I ask you- does anyone know someone in search of an *ahem* well-rounded, passionate Jewish femme?

It looks like it's back to trolling butch-femme.com. :)

A Very Happy Birthday to my Daddy, Bruce Wayne.

That's right, my dad is Batman. Isn't that cool? No, actually, he was just named after him (obviously) but it's still very cool.

Patrick once made an observation that all men named Bruce are rich. While my father isn't 'rich,' he isn't hurting, thanks to very thrifty living while we were younger. And, I haven't found any evidence to contradict this theory. Anyone else know a Bruce?

... so, most of you know I've been going through a 'what career do I want to try on next?' crisis. The dream of being a professor is still there, somewhat, but I'm just not burning with any kind of passion for my work right now, so...ugh. However, practicality has taken a strong grab on me. The kind of 'what can I do to make an actual living for myself and any future dependents without going further into debt' practicality, that is. I know there are people who raise families on what I'm making now. I live at home & so have a very low rent cost, etc, and I still just don't see how they do it. I have no money.

Anyway- the career bug has taken hold,Collapse )

From my history of managing a Mail Boxes Etc. (no longer in existence- they are now the UPS store) I have a healthy distrust of the USPS's Express Mail service. I've heard far too many stories about overnight items not making it in time.

However- given what I paid for UPS today and the estimated price difference from the USPS site, it may be time to overcome this distrust. Does anyone have a positive USPS story to help me out?

... not really. I *know* I don't *really* want one. I know how different my life would be- I think I'm on a budget now? And forget that trip to Columbus. And, I think it's hard to meet women now? Oy, I can't even imagine.

But still- I don't really buy the whole biological clock thing, but maybe. I think a better explanation is, again, Molly's upcoming nuptials. The shower is this Saturday. Ugh. I went ahead and bought both her shower gift and wedding gift already so I wouldn't have to go through shopping for her again. (And also so everyone else wouldn't snatch up the affordable things on her registries. HaHa! I win at being cheap!)

Anyway- if I were going to have a baby, I have names ready. I dreamt about a year ago that I had a son named Robert Benjamin, but he was called Benny. Robert for my cousin who passed on, and Benjamin for my mentor Ben. When I woke up I knew if I ever really did have a son in need of a name that would be it. My sister objects because Robert, who tragically died, was named after his uncle who tragically died, so she thinks the name is bad luck. But I say, whatever.

For a girl- I think it would be Rivkah Janelle. Rivkah for Rebecca, who I think might feel funny if someone actually named their child 'Rebecca' after her, and Janelle for my mom. However, I always change my mind on the girl names. There are so many appealing ones.

Oy. Babies. Someone stop me if I start knitting baby stuff. Seriously.
Speaking of knitting- Melinda! The back is *almost* half done! The 2nd sleeve should be started on by Saturday night/Sunday morning! Yay!

I am SO sick! Uggh. Sinus Infection.

But- Melinda, your shrug is well under way, and nothing icky is getting on it! I have one sleeve and quite a few inches of the back done. I am hoping to have it in the mail by Monday!

Also- one of my dearest friends from college is in town- one week only! Is it in bad form to accept her invitation to dinner, although I look like hell and must blow my nose quite often?

And- Libby got her first San Antonio tag- she is so proud- she wanted to wear her collar right away. She loves new bling.

Can someone please define this word for me: amigurumi

I know it is a doll- however, is it any doll? It seems like everyone & her mother who has a knitting or crafting blog makes them nowadays, and the term is bandied about like there is no tomorrow. They dolls are all really cute- various knit, sewn, felted configurations.

What's the dealio?

ALSO- I am making more ginger cakes, because I promised one to a girl at work tomorrow. I wish you were all here to enjoy steamy gingery goodness.

I think Mr. Rickman would enjoy them at least as much as butter tarts. *grin*

Shirt! Shirt, shirt, shirt, shirt!

Libby's favorite toy! You can wear it, sleep with it, tug it, chew it, lick it, bat at it, wrestle with it! Shirt!

Unlike Libby, I can't keep myself occupied with my shirt. I need something to do. Anyone wanna give me some trivia? How about a request for information? I need work!

I just made this.
SOOOOOO good. I used my Black & Decker steam machine (best kitchen gadget EVER!) and some heavy, ramikin like teacups instead of cupcake trays. In one cup, I added dark chocolate, in one ginger, and in the last vanilla. 20 minutes wasn't quite long enough for the steaming, it was still gooey in the middle, but very very tasty! The second batch is in now, for 25 minutes- hope that's enough!

ETA: The ginger is the best. To the entire recipe, I added about 2 tsp. Vanilla (in place of Anise, cause I don't have any.) In this particular cup, I used just a sprinkle of powdered ginger, and mixed it in. If you make this recipe, which you should, try the GINGER!
