**Tuskeggee, scene of the infamous syphilis experiment that took place from the 1930s to the 1970s, also became the center of production for cancer cells called HeLa that were used for mass cultivation of poliovirus and vaccine reagent (see Immortal Cancer page). Julius Rosenwald and his son Lessing were lifetime board members of the Tuskegee Institute, and Lessing’s sister, Edith Rosenwald Stern, was a participant in the New Orleans plot to assassinate JFK and frame L.H. Oswald (see Dr. Mary’s Monkey page).
