Who We Work With
For too long, public safety has been defined solely as a matter of law enforcement. Today, communities across the country are reexamining what safety truly means. CPE partners with them, centering their lived experiences and providing the data, tools, and support needed to build public safety models that are more responsive to their needs.
Policymakers committed to transforming public safety turn to CPE for rigorous research, evidence-based recommendations, and technical assistance. We support leaders in designing policies and programs that advance equity and build safety systems grounded in community needs.
Law enforcement agencies collaborate with CPE to analyze their data and identify racial disparities and harm in their practices. Our work helps agencies refine policies, strengthen accountability, and improve outcomes for the communities they serve.

[Our department] has always maintained that policing is about serving the public and with the drastic social change that the world experienced in 2020, it was clear that MPD needed to explore new perspectives when it came to analyzing data. Through the successful partnership with CPE, MPD was able to step beyond merely analyzing the data and begin the discussions on how to make the information relevant to foster positive change. MPD appreciates the dedication of the CPE team for helping the department to serve the City of Menomonie through innovation and collaboration.
[The CPE team was] amazing! The early feedback has been nothing short of incredible. You did such an incredible job of getting our staff eased and engaged. I believe in my heart that we have taken a significant step forward.
Simsi is proud to partner with [CPE] to support community organizations and grassroots movements as they take ownership of public safety in their communities. We are energized by the achievements of multistakeholder partnerships that use evidence-based strategies to maximize existing local resources.
The Center for Policing Equity (CPE) supported the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Palmdale station by providing rigorous data analysis and research that helped translate the Antelope Valley Settlement Agreement requirements into clear, evidence-based local safety decisions, particularly in the areas of force and stops. Working with CPE reinforced the importance of transparency and accountability, ensuring our practices could be openly evaluated and continuously improved. Ultimately, this collaboration strengthened our ability to better serve residents by aligning enforcement, community engagement, and oversight with the shared goal of safer, more trusted policing.
The Center for Policing Equity (CPE) provided meaningful support to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s efforts at Lancaster Station to partner with our communities to enforce the law fairly and enhance public trust. Through data‑informed guidance, community engagement and outreach strategies, and collaborative problem‑solving, CPE assisted our team in better understanding local concerns and identifying barriers to trust. This partnership enabled our staff to develop more equitable approaches to public safety, expand dialogue with historically underrepresented residents, and implement practices aimed at improving transparency, fairness, and community well‑being.
