The “most exciting 2 minutes in sports” is the Kentucky Derby, a historic horse race held annually on the first Saturday in May at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky. It is the first leg of the Triple Crown for three-year-old Thoroughbreds, known for its intense speed, large 20-horse fields, and cultural traditions like mint juleps and elaborate hats. – Google AI Overview

I love horseracing. Everything about it. The splendor of a beautiful racetrack like Del Mar, Saratoga and Churchhill Downs, where this Saturday one of the biggest days of racing will be held – the running of the Kentucky Derby. I love the beauty and athleticism of the horses, the courage of the jockeys, and of course, the action. I’m not a gambler as such, however, when I am at the track, I am betting. There is nothing more fun than picking a winner and cashing a winning ticket.
Winning tickets make spirits soar, No matter the size of the score. Every horseplayer would say It’s an exceptional day When your tickets don’t end up on the floor!

National Jelly Bean Day is celebrated every year on April 22. It is a day dedicated to honoring one of America’s most popular and versatile candies, known for its hard outer shell and chewy, gel-like interior.
Civil War Roots: While soft candies existed earlier, Boston confectioner William Schrafft popularized jelly beans by encouraging people to send them to Union soldiers as a treat that wouldn’t melt in transit.
Easter Association: In the 1930s, the candy became a staple of Easter celebrations due to its egg-like shape. – Google AI Overview
Social media is a gold mine for material for my poetry form – limericks. It is an ocean of graphics that offer opinions of society and the world in general with pictures and, in many cases, commentary. I have immediate reactions to the ones that capture my attention and imagination resulting in “five lines of wisdom, wit and rhyme.” This happened yesterday while scrolling through Facebook.
Well, it seems that marijuana is here to stay. It is the D.O.C. of many baby boomers and now their kids, It is legal in many states. The tobacco industry is poised and ready, just waiting for the winds of change to put them in the pot business. It could happen. Democracy is a fickle thing sometimes. And you have to know that pot has a lobby and a PAC.
And stoners vote. If they can remember there is an election. And where they put their car keys so they can drive to the polls if they remember there’s an election……I am pretty sure they have a slogan – Cop That Buzz.
Beyond that, I don’t think stoners are giving it much thought…and that led to this….
Each year on April 19th, National Garlic Day celebrates a vegetable also known as the stinking rose. The fragrant and potent root has been seasoning dishes for thousands of years.
First, I am not an atheist. I believe in God, a Higher Power, and a Divine Design of the Universe and, Life On Earth. My religious beliefs have been formed from my Jewish upbringing and teachings and from my personal experiences in my 73+ years as a human being. I am open-minded, though I find some religious beliefs ask much when they ask that faith suspend disbelief, which, in one specific case, I am unable to do. That said, I do not completely rule out that it could be true.
There seems to be a saying or a metaphor for just about everything. A popular one offers an optimistic message when something disappointing happens, however, it does not offer any advice on how to prevent it from happening again – this meme and limerick do.
I actually make a concerted effort to be easy going and not difficult. But there are some people that just rub me the wrong way with their arrogance, airs and attitude. When that happens, they push my “let’s get difficult” button and it’s on.

I have 1142 limericks and poems posted here at the Poet’s Corner Poetry Blog. I would like to express my appreciation to Harry for giving me a platform for my “wisdom, wit and rhyme” and my silliness. And also express my appreciation for the people who have been engaging with my stuff for thirteen years. Thank you, thank you, thank you. It’s been so much fun.
