History
Mountains and People – Bulgarian Association of Mountain Leaders and Mountain Guides was founded on 12.11.1997 as a voluntary non-profit association. It unites individuals and legal entities emotionally and professionally connected to the mountains, with common professional and hobby interests.
Mountains and People Association is the largest industry organization uniting Mountain Leaders in Bulgaria.
The aim of the association is to help and encourage the development of sustainable and ecotourism in the Bulgarian mountains. The association works to create an ethical mountaineering culture, and its members have adopted a code of ethics. The members of the association are passionate about the sustainable development of the mountains and support the local communities in them.
The association cooperates with state institutions, non-governmental organizations and tourism companies that develop good practices in mountainous areas. In the past and currently, the association actively participates in developing and updating regulatory documents related to the profession and training of Mountain Leaders and Mountain Guides in Bulgaria.
Mountains and People – Bulgarian Association of Mountain Guides is the leading organization in the training of Mountain Leaders and Mountain Guides in Bulgaria. Its vocational training center was opened in 2003 and has since conducted 40 mountain leader training courses. The diplomas issued by the training center of the association are internationally recognized.
Mountains and People – Bulgarian Association of Mountain Leaders and Mountain Guides is the Bulgarian member of the Union of International Mountain Leaders Associations (UIMLA).
