Wage & Benefits Survey

The Wage & Benefits Survey is a collaborative effort of the Americas Printing Association Network (APAN), conducted in the summer of 2025. This comprehensive report provides valuable insights into labor costs and human resource practices gathered from nearly 400 printing and graphic communications firms across North America.

The survey is available exclusively to companies eligible for Active Membership within the association—those engaged in any aspect of graphic imaging and printing, including pre-press, press, and post-press operations. This includes printers, graphic designers, advertising agencies, binders, envelope and stationery manufacturers, printing brokers, and producers of specialized printed products.

Participating companies that submitted their wage and benefits data receive a complimentary copy of the full report.

Printing Industry Performance and Insights Reports

The Printing Industry Performance and Insights (PIPI) studies equip company leaders with valuable knowledge, practical tools, and actionable recommendations drawn from survey data collected from print companies nationwide. PICA is one of fifteen state and regional printing associations collaborating with Dr. Ralph Williams, Associate Professor of Management at Middle Tennessee State University, to conduct these studies.

PIPI studies are conducted twice annually: the spring survey emphasizes financial benchmarking, while the fall survey explores the industry outlook and a focused management topic, such as supply chain, branding, or other key business areas.

Printers’ Disability Trust Offers Group Life, AD&D, Disability, Dental and Vision Insurance for Printing & Graphics Arts Employers For more than 50 years the Printers’ Disability Trust (PDT) has helped provide progressive, quality insurance programs developed by and exclusively for printing and graphics arts employers. Benefits are crucial to attracting and retaining employees and protecting them and their families from financial hardships. The need for medical insurance is widely recognized, but employers can get a jump on the competition for the best employees by offering disability, vision, dental, and life insurance. PDT offers flexible insurance plans that help employers balance features and cost. You’ll find that each plan has several designs, giving you flexibility in finding the features that best meet the needs of your workforce. Printers’ Disability Trust (PDT) is pleased to offer you the opportunity to provide eligible employees and their dependents with important insurance coverages: Short Term Disability (STD), Long Term Disability (LTD), Dental, Vision, and Life and Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) insurance coverage. These plans are all underwritten by Standard Insurance Company. Coverage is available on either a contributory or non-contributory basis for the following groups: • All Employees • All Salaried Employees • All Hourly Employees If your business pays 100% of the monthly contribution, all employees in the covered class must be enrolled in the program. If your employees share in the cost of the monthly contributions, at least 50% of the class selected must be enrolled in the program for Disability and Life Insurance. There is no participation requirement for Dental and Vision Insurance other than a group of 2 or more.

The Solid Ground Benefit Program is a level-funded health plan designed to give employers the best of both worlds: predictable monthly costs and the potential for real savings. Unlike traditional fully insured plans, Solid Ground offers claims transparency so you can see how your healthcare dollars are being used—and manage costs more effectively.

The real advantage? If actual claims come in lower than expected, your business could receive an IRS-approved refund on unused funds—something fully insured plans don’t offer. Solid Ground combines financial control, cost savings potential, and predictable payments, making it ideal for employers with 5–300 employees who want smarter, more transparent healthcare coverage.

The average refund for fiscal year 2024-2025 for clients under the Solid Ground Benefits program was $40,000. The employer received $20,000 or 50% of that and the remainder was split evenly with the employees who are on the Solid Ground plan.
