Who are we?

As the founders of Pepita.hu, we both graduated from the University of Miskolc and started on the entrepreneurial path already during our university years. Our first joint company focused on website development, which laid the foundation for our later technological and business experience.

From 2007, we worked on the development of Szallas.hu and Szallasguru.hu. As founders of the company, together with our team, we won numerous professional awards and by 2010 turned Szallas.hu into Hungary’s market-leading accommodation booking website.
In 2014, Szallas.hu became the fastest-growing technology company in the region (Deloitte Fast 50 – 1st place). The company received new owners in two steps in 2011 and at the end of 2015, and has been operating successfully ever since.

Building on the experience gained, we launched Pepita.hu in the summer of 2017 as a Hungarian-owned marketplace and online store, with the goal of enabling our customers to find almost everything in one place. Today, more than 2,000 registered partners sell on our platform, and our assortment exceeds 6,000,000 offers, continuously expanding. In our online store, we welcome visitors with a wide selection of popular brands, ranging from garden and DIY products through technical goods, clothing and drugstore items, all the way to baby and mom products, toys and sports equipment.

In recent years, we have placed a strong focus on successfully supporting our partners’ export activities as well as involving local businesses. As a result, Pepita is now present internationally via the Pepita.com website in Romania, Slovakia, Germany, Poland, Austria, Bulgaria and Croatia.

At the beginning of 2020, the Budapest-based venture capital investor Portfolion acquired an ownership stake in the company, thereby strengthening the solid financial background and the opportunities for further growth. Our rapid growth has been recognized with numerous awards in recent years, which we are very proud of. Among others:

2022

• In the gkid eTOPLISTA 2022 ranking, we finished in 12th place among the highest-revenue e-commerce retailers. In the ranking of Hungarian retailers with revenues exceeding HUF 5 billion, we achieved 5th place.

2023

• Thanks to our outstanding revenue growth of 56%, we were included in the Forbes Digital Heroes league.
• At the Deloitte Fast 50 – 2023, our results were recognized in the “Companies to Watch” category with 16th place at the regional level (2nd place among Hungarian companies).
• In the gkid eTOPLISTA 2023, we moved up compared to our 2022 position: among the highest-revenue e-commerce retailers we finished in 6th place, and among Hungarian retailers with revenues exceeding HUF 5 billion, we improved by two positions and reached third place on the podium.

2024

• We won the HungarEcomm Stars award in the Nagycsillag category, which ranked Hungarian companies with revenues exceeding HUF 10 billion. Thanks to our outstanding performance, this year we entered the top one per mille of Hungarian e-commerce retailers.
• On the PwC E-toplist 2024 (formerly gkid eTOPLISTA), the Pepita Group was the only Hungarian player among the 10 most well-known online retailers in Hungary. We finished in 4th place among the 17 largest domestic e-commerce retailers with gross online revenues exceeding HUF 5 billion, and we also had the largest export volume in the entire field.

2025

• We were included in the Growww Digital TOP 50 Online Exporters in CEE list, which features the largest and most dynamically growing players in the Central and Eastern European region.
• This year, we received the HungarEcomm Stars award as 1st place winner in the Digital Star category.
• It is a special honor for us to have been included in the Budapest Stock Exchange BÉT50 publication. Each year, the publication presents the success stories of 50 companies that have Hungarian ownership backgrounds, show continuously growing revenues and profitability, play a significant role as employers, and are also competitive at the international level.

Our goal is to continuously enhance the customer experience, strengthen our partner and supplier relationships, and become one of the leading e-commerce players in the region.
