I was listening to the Spoonman's podcast from Anzac Day, and I didn't get quite enough of the debate to satisfy my needs.

Essentially, Spoony was stirring things up by pointing out that the winner's cheque for a Tennis Grand Slam win is the same amount for men and women (sole exception: Wimbledon). Yet the men have to win the best out of 5 sets, while the women only have to win the best of 3.

Personally, I agree with Spoony (as I often do), that this is grossly unfair. I'm all for equal pay, but it has to be for equal work. I'll note that Billie-Jean King is campaigning for equal winnings at Wimbledon as well, but I've yet to see any proposal that women increase the difficulty of winning by playing the best of 5 sets like the men do.

Now if I had a paid account, I'd make this a poll to visibly show the results, but I don't, so I'll have to fake it. Comment if you'd like to take part, and let me know what your vote is.

Yes, this is unfair. Equal winnings comes with equal work.

No, the current situation is what's unfair. Women who win should get the same amount of money.

I saw the last five minutes of his appearance on Dateline, where he defended himself against the accusation that he's too aggressive, but I missed Q and A. I'm not too fussed by missing it though.…
