Andrew Connor Andrew Julian Connor was born in Sydney, Australia and he was raised there by his parents, Jack and April, until the age of five. Shortly after his fifth birthday, Andrew's father, a surgeon, was offered a place as Head of Trauma Surgery at a hospital in Boston, USA. The family immigrated to America shortly after and it has been Andrew's home ever since.
After college, Andrew trained to become a paramedic and scored his first placement in New York City at the age of 22. New York remains his home and although being a paramedic in such a large city can be demanding and stressful, he enjoys his job and wouldn't change his career for anything. Just before Christmas 2007, Andrew lost his father in a car accident. Andrew was a passenger in the car and was trapped in the wreck, pleading with his father to wake up. As a paramedic who works to save lives, Andrew blamed himself for not being able to save his father and began drinking heavily to try and cope with the loss. It was only when he nearly killed himself one night on an horrific bender that he could see, with the help of his cousin, just how bad he had gotten. Once he attended AA and dried himself out, he made a decision to take a temporary job in London, England for six months just to give him a change of scenery and time to collect his thoughts and deal with his grief. He returned to New York at the end of October and realised then how homesick he had been away from the place.
Andrew has a few close-knit friends which he mostly sticks to when he has time to socialise. His first cousin on his mother's side of the family, Luke Jackson also lives in New York hailing from Sydney, and they make a regular point of catching up for drinks when they can manage it. Andrew is a friendly guy, albeit a little bashful with the opposite sex. When he's not working, he enjoys writing and hopes to get published one day. He also likes a bit of Karaoke and dancing, never being one to turn down a night on the town with his mates if it's on offer.
At the end of November 2008, Andrew encountered Ali Sullivan, a distraught expectant mother in labour who needed a trip to the hospital to give birth. Ali was highly distressed and alone, and Andrew reflexively tried to help her by taking her hand during the ambulance ride to comfort her. Two days later, he visited her and her new baby daughter in the hospital, and they formed an instant connection. The rest is history. After a few months of dating and falling deeply in love, Andrew agreeing to be a father to the baby girl, he proposed to Ali in June 2009, and she accepted.
