OUR STORY

A note from our founders

We have a Shepherd who would leave 99 safe and healthy sheep in order to rescue one that is wounded or wayward.

2 Corinthians 1 relates the experience of the apostle Paul—how he not only wanted to quit his ministry, he wanted to quit living. His point in relating his personal experience was to testify to the way the Shepherd came after him, and to the fact that we all have the potential to partner with him in his shepherding work.

Thousands of global workers quit every year, often because no one came after them.

That is unacceptable—to us, to those who sent them, and to their Shepherd. Paracletos exists to do something about that.

Hi, we are Dave and Irene Lewis, the founders of Paracletos. In the days when the whole concept of missionary care was in its infancy, we watched as dozens of our co-workers left the field. And when we ourselves experienced a painful exit from our field of service, no one came after us—except our Shepherd. As he came alongside us to put the pieces of our lives back together, he planted a dream within us to redeem our personal experience—to comfort others with the comfort we ourselves received from our Great Shepherd.

We understand the challenges of life in a cross-cultural environment, the difficulties of transition, the disappointments of deferred hope. We have come to care deeply for those who serve in hard places, and we want to use our empathy and our experience to bring encouragement and hope into their lives.

The needs of the harvest force far outweigh any individual’s skills and capacity.

That’s why we started Paracletos. To provide care ourselves while recruiting people like you to join us in creating a culture of care. Those who have answered the call to labor in the harvest fields are precious. The Lord of the harvest would have them thrive, and we believe we can partner with him in making that happen.
