Open Top Vertical Perforation Capsules

“Shrink caps” are used to cover or protect the top of Closures.

In the spirits and wine industry, these PVC shrink caps provide a tamper-evident seal and enhance presentation. They’re a popular choice due to the simple vertical tear strip (perforation). They’re versatile and visually appealing.

They’re also practical. These caps are easily applied using heat (gun or steam), which is attractive to large-scale productions and small-scale wineries. And, compared to other closures, PVC shrink caps are cost-effective.

We’ve commonly used these shrink caps on Spirits Bottles and Wine Bottles.

Why Open Top?

While it’s mostly an aesthetic preference, the open top allows for view of the closure on the bottle whereas a closed top would not. Some may prefer an open top if they have a customized closure.

Why Vertical Tear Strip? The choice between horizontal or vertical perforation comes down to your desired tear pattern to open the bottle. Vertical perforations offer clean tear-offs that create a clean line down the bottle and provide the ability to remove the whole shrink cap for ease of recyclability. Whereas with horizontal perforation, typically, the bottom half of the shrink cap stays on the bottle when torn.

PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) is flexible and tough. Despite its flexibility, PVC remains strong and tear-resistant, ensuring the cap remains intact until intentionally removed. It’s a material that shrinks uniformly when heated, providing a tight seal for a professional and tamper-evident finish.

PVC material is relatively inexpensive, widely available, and can be manufactured in large quantities.

The smooth surface provides a sleek, polished look. The clear material and open top allows for you to see through the shrink cap at the closure of the packaging which some may prefer if you have a customized closure you want to show off. The clear material can also allow for various printing and customization onto the shrink cap like adding logos, colors, or patterns.
