The Pacific Screenwriting Program works to ensure a vibrant screenwriting community in British Columbia.  Based in Vancouver, the not-for-profit organization provides training and support to BC-based TV film and television writers at all levels, with the aim of generating a deep and sustainable pool of local talent for BC-based series and films with an emphasis on diversity and gender parity. We believe that supporting this community of writers is an essential first step to:

Anna Archer is a literary agent at Lucas Talent. She has been working on behalf of writers, directors and picture editors who work in film and television for 20 years, representing her clients and their projects in the major entertainment industry centers in Canada and in Los Angeles. Her roster is a creative mix of established writers, story editors, picture editors and directors peppered with interesting and talented emerging writers. She is fortunate to work with some of the top creative people in Canada, working across all genres including live action drama, animation and documentary/lifestyle.

Prior to moving to Vancouver, Anna worked in the publishing industry in London, England for approximately 10 years, where she served as Chair of the Board for the Spoken Word Publishers Association – a non-profit organization established to promote the then emerging audiobook market in the UK.

After working for several years in a Vancouver chartered accounting firm, Robert first joined Creative BC when it was BC Film + Media. Now Creative BC’s Vice President, Robert markets British Columbia internationally as a destination of choice for projects and companies seeking a world class creative industries centre in which to do business. In his role, he leads the administration of Creative BC’s tax credit and granting programs, balancing attraction of international business with support for BC’s domestic content creators. Robert has become the expert on motion picture tax credits, originally helping to launch the BC film and television tax credit program in 1998. He went on to play an integral role in the evolution of British Columbia’s motion picture industry tax policy.

Brian Hamilton is a self-described cheerleader for the BC production industry and has been involved for over 25 years as a volunteer and board member for numerous organizations in the BC creative industry, including the BC Branch of the CMPA, the Vancouver Film Festival, Crazy8’s and DOC. As a partner of Omnifilm Entertainment, he has executive produced more than 70 television projects in both scripted and non-scripted genres, representing over 350 hours of broadcast programming since he joined Omnifilm in 1994. Brian is responsible for Omnifilm’s original content, including primetime scripted, kids and family programming, documentaries and factual series, in addition to overseeing Omnifilm’s Physical Production and Post Production teams. Recent programs which Brian executive produced include: Bletchley Circle: San Francisco for ITV, Britbox, Citytv and Netflix; Bush Wreck Rescue for Discovery Channel; Gabby Duran & the Unsittables as well as Fast Layne for Disney Channel; Jade Fever for Discovery Channel; Wild Bear Rescue for Animal Planet; Mech-X4 for Disney XD; Primeval: New World for Space, ProSeiben and UKTV; CBC’sArctic Air; Defying Gravity, for CTV, BBC, ProSeiben, and ABC, Robson Arms for CTV and Make Some Noise for CBC, which was awarded the Gemini for Best Youth Non-Fiction series, the Shaw Rocket Prize, and the prestigious Japan Prize for Youth Programming. Brian holds a First Class Honours Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Systems Design Engineering from the University of Waterloo and received his television training from the Banff Centre for the Arts.

Damon Vignale is known for his work on the hit crime-drama series Motive, the Emmy nominated 19-2, and the critically acclaimed series Blackstone. He was creator-showrunner of The Murders for City TV. His crime documentary The Exhibition received numerous accolades including a 2014 International Emmy Award and Canadian Screen Award. Most recently, Damon was a co-executive producer and writer on the CBC series Allegiance.

Danielle Woodrow is Director of Content at Netflix Canada. She relocated from Los Angeles to Toronto in fall of 2021 to spearhead the build of the local Content team.

Since joining Netflix in 2018, Woodrow has played an integral role in the development and production of a number of series including Behind Her Eyes, Pieces of Her and The Lincoln Lawyer. She also championed the acquisition of dramedy Emily in Paris. Most recently, she and the Canadian team greenlit their first scripted series, UNT. Artic Comedy, a co-license with CBC and APTN; and Tall Pines, a thriller created by comedian Mae Martin.

Woodrow came to Netflix from Perfect Storm Entertainment where she built the series arm and served as the President of Television. With Perfect Storm, Woodrow developed and executive produced the long-running CBS dramas Scorpion and S.W.A.T. as well as the cult hit Warrior for HBO Max.

Prior to joining Perfect Storm, Woodrow served as Senior Vice President of Original Programming at FX Networks, where she ran the Current Department and played a key executive role in shepherding the network’s slate of critically acclaimed series including Justified, Damages, Sons of Anarchy and Archer.

David Jol is an entertainment, business, and video game lawyer who advises developers, publishers, producers, creators, and entrepreneurs. He assists his clients in financing, contract negotiation, intellectual property management, and general corporate and employment matters.

David has a background working in tech and software and has guided startups in their journey from incorporation through funding rounds to exit. He has worked with businesses that range from large global private equity firms to small-team/solo indie game developers and filmmakers.

Prior to his legal career, David studied creative writing and spent half a decade living and working in various parts of the world: from India and Southeast Asia to Central and South America. He brings an array of real-life experience to his legal work that make him an intuitive problem solver, clever strategist and, perhaps most importantly, a pleasure to work with.

With over 20 years of experience developing and producing exceptional content, Erin drives Lark’s strategy and operations, in addition to overseeing the company’s slate of scripted and unscripted content. Most recently, Erin executive produced Knowledge Network’s upcoming series Paramedics: Life On The Line, a prequel to the award-winning docu-series Emergency Room: Life + Death at VGH (Knowledge, Discovery Fit). Erin has also produced CTV’s successful crime drama Motive (CTV, USA, ABC), and the hit formats The Real Housewives of Toronto and The Real Housewives of Vancouver (Slice). Lark’s programs succeed domestically and internationally, having been sold in over 180 territories. Other projects include Crash Gallery (CBC), High Moon (Syfy), Mom’s A Medium (CMT), and Gastown Gamble (OWN Canada).

Before joining Lark, Erin was Director of Development with Infinity Features, and was the Executive in Charge of Production for Terry Gilliam’s Academy Award nominated film The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus. Prior to that she was Director of Development at Paperny Entertainment where she oversaw a slate of scripted and unscripted series, and was involved in the highly successful original series Eat Street (Food Network Canada).

A graduate of the Canadian Film Centre, Erin currently serves on the CMPA National Board of Directors and the CMPA BC Branch Council.

Jason manages the day-to-day operations of the BC Producers Branch of the CMPA and oversees industrial relations, representing independent producers in collective labour matters and serving as a member resource for collective agreement interpretation and production practices.

As the lead negotiator for CMPA-BC, Jason is responsible for the bargaining and management of the labour agreements between the CMPA and BC’s unions and guilds. He assists members with grievance and arbitration procedures and represents the independent production sector in matters of labour, employment standards, health and safety, and regulatory compliance.

Jason is a director and Treasurer of the BC Motion Picture Training Society, a BC not-for-profit created to fund the delivery of safety and skills training to motion picture workers represented by the BC & Yukon Council of Film Unions (IATSE 891, ICG669 and Teamsters 155).

Prior to joining the CMPA, Jason was Vice-President, Business and Legal Affairs for SEVEN24 Films in Calgary, Alberta. He managed business and financial matters on multiple Canadian television movies, mini-series and series including Heartland, and Wynonna Earp. During this time, he served as a producer representative in the CMPA’s negotiations with ACTRA, the DGC and the WGC and was co-chair of the CMPA’s national Industrial Relations committee for a two-year term.

Multi-award winning writer, director and executive producer Robert Cooper has been involved in the creation of over 400 episodes of television. His latest series Unspeakable, for CBC and Sundance TV, chronicled the Canadian tainted blood tragedy and was produced through his production company, Mezo Entertainment. Prior to that, he served as showrunner on Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency for BBCAmerica, Netflix and AMC Studios. He is also known for showrunning the record-breaking 17 season Stargate television franchise for MGM. He co-created Stargate Atlantis and Stargate Universe and served as executive producer, writer, and director of multiple episodes of all three series and two DTV movies.

Robert has numerous nominations and has won several awards including 2 Best Series awards and a Canadian Writer’s Guild award for best dramatic screenplay. In 2009, he was presented with an Outstanding Achievement Award for contribution to the British Columbia television industry.

Currently, Mezo Entertainment has several projects in development including one that was optioned from a PSP graduate.

Robin Mirsky is Executive Director of the Rogers Group of Funds. Robin joined Rogers Communications in 1989. She is responsible for the Rogers Group of Funds, which includes the Rogers Series Fund, a $5.5 million equity investment fund for Canadian television series and the Rogers Documentary Fund, a $3.0 million Fund that awards grants to Canadian independent documentary filmmakers. Robin also sits on a number of Boards such as the Banff World Media Festival, the Giller Foundation and One Family Fund.

PSP Alumni: Scripted Series Lab Class of 2021

Ryan is an award-winning Cree writer and filmmaker from the Little Pine Reserve, Saskatchewan. Raised between a traditional Cree upbringing and an urban middle-class neighborhood, Ryan grew up attending pow-wows, round dances, sweat lodges, and Native American Church ceremonies, experiences that deeply inform the themes of identity, belonging, and resilience in his work.

Ryan studied at New York’s Circle in the Square Theatre School before earning a Joint MFA in Screenwriting and Film Production from the University of British Columbia. A graduate of the Pacific Screenwriting Program, he has built a dynamic career in both television and independent film

He is currently a Writer and Consulting Producer on Paramount+’s SkyMed, and previously served as Executive Story Editor on SkyMed Seasons 2 and 3. His television work also includes Story Editor on The CW/CTV’s Sullivan’s Crossing and participation in the writers’ room for Hudson & Rex through the Access Reelworld Level Up Program.

Driven by a passion to support the work of artistic creators, Camilla has spent 30 years in cultural management in Metro Vancouver and the UK. Her career includes executive roles at Gateway Theatre, the Vancouver Writers Fest, and Touchstone Theatre, and marketing roles the Arts Club Theatre Company, the London Symphony Orchestra and more. She has held numerous volunteer positions, most recently on the board of the PuSh International Performing Arts Festival.

As the Executive Director of the Pacific Screenwriting Program, she is committed to creating opportunities to develop the skills of domestic screenwriters and is inspired by the impact that PSP alumni are having locally and nationally.

Interim Scripted Series Lab Manager:

Kate has worked at the PSP in various capacities since its first year of operations. She is a TV writer herself, having adapted over 100 episodes of childrens anime for North American markets, including Beyblade Burst and Tobot, both currently streaming on Netflix.

Indigenous Screenwriters Lab: 2024

Shaelyn Johnston is an award-winning Ojibwe and Irish-Canadian writer from Vancouver, BC. She is a recipient of the Governor General’s History Award and holds a BFA and MFA in Creative Writing from the University of British Columbia. Shaelyn was selected for both editions of Telus STORYHIVE’s Indigenous Storytellers Edition and was a participant in Whistler Film Festival’s Indigenous Filmmaker Fellowship and Screenwriters Lab. Her first short film, The Healing Dance, screened at numerous festivals across Canada & the US and won Best Short Film at the 2021 Weengushk International Film Festival. Her second short, Anishinaabemowin, will hit the festival circuit in Fall 2024. She coordinates professional development programs for Indigenous filmmakers through Capilano University’s Indigenous Digital Accelerator, and she also sits on the board of the Gender Equity in Media Society (previously WIFT Vancouver), where she manages and co-facilitates the Tricksters & Writers Screenwriting Program.
