Setting Quality Standards

The Accreditation Council on Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy Education (ACOMPTE) became responsible on January 1, 2020, for setting the standards and formal accreditation of all Orthopedic Manual Therapy (OMT) Fellowship Programs recognized by the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists (AAOMPT) in the USA.

The American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists formed ACOMPTE to meet the needs of all OMT Fellowship programs and to ensure compliance with standards set by AAOMPT and the International Federation of Orthopedic Manipulative Physical Therapists (IFOMPT).

Our Mission

The MAPS Fellowship Program’s mission is to provide advanced orthopedic manual physical therapy instruction in the patient-centered Maitland-Australian approach, training clinicians in advanced clinical reasoning and hands-on psychomotor skills guided by the current best evidence. The ultimate aim is to produce fellows who are leaders in Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy, both in the clinic and in research, who may capably contribute to advancements in the field of orthopedic manual physical therapy.

It is our hope that MAPS OMT graduates will shape the future of PT to elevate the status of the orthopedic manual therapist to become synonymous with the primary provider of choice for the treatment of all musculoskeletal conditions.” — Chris Showalter, PT, DPT, OCS, COMT, FAAOMPT, Fellowship Program Director.
