The Final Day!

Today is the final day of Session 2 of the Cambridge Experience, and what a time we’ve had! From interesting classes to field trips to punting, football, skating, bowling, talents shows, ghost tours and more, our students have had an absolute blast! We’d love to thank them for making the last two weeks so memorable and fun, and hope they’ve had just as much of an incredible time as we have! We’re all feeling pretty emotional on this final day, but us in the office are committed to making it the best day yet!

Breakfast, 8am

As always, we started the day with a delicious breakfast in hall. Lots of traditional English breakfast foods as well as pastries, cereal, and lots of orange juice!

Morning Classes, 9am-12pm

Our students had their final classes this morning which they spent busily finishing up their presentations for this afternoon’s showcase.

SHOWCASE!

After grabbing a quick lunch in town, the time came for the grand finale – the CamEx Showcase, where each class presented their presentations, demonstrating the culmination of their work over the past two weeks.

Reception and Formal Dinner

After some time to pack up their things and have some final chill time, our CamEx-ers were treated to an outdoor reception followed by a delicious three-course meal in the great hall.

Closing Ceremony

After dinner, every student, staff, and faculty member gathered in the theatre for the closing ceremony. Teachers shared their fondest memories of their classes and we were treated to a touching speech from two of the CamEx students.

PARTY TIME!

The day finished with the long-awaited BOP, a Big Organised Party in the JCR. Props to our Activities Directors for planning such a fabulous way to end the program!

From all of us at CamEx – thank you for making Session 2 such a wonderful experience. We’ve loved every moment and hope you have too!

Wednesday Morning!

This week offered a fascinating mix of academic exploration and practical experiences across a variety of subjects. For instance, in medicine, students had the opportunity to take part in a heart dissection, giving us a close-up look at anatomy and the structure of one of the body’s most vital organs.

In law, students stepped into the role of lawyers, debating a fictional murder case and learning how arguments are built and presented in court.

Global business classes focused on the entrepreneurial journey – particularly how to seek investment and pitch ideas to potential backers.

Science and the Future sessions encouraged students to think ahead, exploring how different scientific advancements could shape the world of tomorrow. Meanwhile in banking and markets, we examined how global financial systems work and the forces that influence economies, trade, and investment.

It was a great morning full of discovery, critical thinking, and interesting insight!

Monday Activities!

The afternoon kicked off with some very engaging classes!

One highlight was the Science and the Future class, where students explored the pressing issue of food security. Through discussions and interactive activities, students combined their creative and scientific nous to examine how climate change, population growth, and technological innovation intersect to shape the future of our food systems. It was eye-opening to see how science can directly address global challenges and spark real solutions.

Meanwhile, over in Aerospace Engineering, students had the chance to build and launch their own water bottle rockets. It was a fantastic blend of fun and learning, and a brilliant way to bring engineering principles to life.

In Creative Writing class, the students enjoyed improving their narrative skills through detailed description of setting and atmosphere. In Espionage, students worked on their posters ready for the final showcase on Thursday. Across all the classes, students enjoyed going deeper into their respective subjects!

The students then enjoyed a fun-filled and diverse afternoon of activities, beginning with a peaceful visit to the Cambridge University Botanic Gardens.

Surrounded by beautifully curated landscapes and rare plant species, the students explored the gardens at a relaxed pace, taking in the serene environment and learning a lot about the unique collections on display. Safe to say, they really enjoyed it!

The afternoon took a lively turn for some with an energetic water fight in Deer Park. What began as a few students with water pistols quickly escalated into a full-scale battle, with everyone joining in for some refreshing fun. The infamous British weather struck again though, as the skies opened towards the end, soaking everyone! Spirits were really high though as students made fun memories together.

Despite the rain, the students headed out for a football match after dinner, full of energy and team spirit. Others enjoyed some relaxed time in the JCR – chatting, playing games, and unwinding together. All in all, we had a action-packed day!

Until next time,

Over in the Davidson room, Law and Psychology teamed up for a guest lecture with Dr Gary Munnelly, discussing the topics of disinformation and misinformation in crime and punishment.

Creative Writing had some time to develop their skills with poetry excerpts, extending and redacting poems and exploring their own styles.

Meanwhile, Criminology learnt how to detect psychopathic traits in individuals and used examples from media to analyse how they are displayed.

In Espionage, preparations for this week’s showcase were meticulously being made, with the contents of their presentation sadly remaining top secret, for now…

While over with WW2, the group visited the American Cemetery, reflecting on the impact of war and its social and political impact across the world.

Stay tuned for this afternoon’s activities. including the Botanic Gardens, a water fight (albeit in the rain) and our long-awaited Talent Show!

Engineering sessions challenged students with problem-solving tasks, encouraging them to think creatively and logically in order to build an effective bridge. Meanwhile Science and the Future classes got special insight from a guest speaker!

A joint session between law and criminology, where the guest speaker delivered a detailed lecture on evidence and crime scene investigation, explained how legal procedures and forensic techniques work together to solve cases and ensure justice is properly served.

In medicine, students had the chance to do microscope work, examining slides and learning how to identify cells and tissues – a fascinating insight into the body at a microscopic level.

In creative writing classes meanwhile, students explored how to develop original ideas, build compelling characters, and use language effectively to tell engaging and imaginative stories.
