Sam and Lu Akin have been married since 2018 and have a son named Noah. They both served in various ministry roles since 2016, and in 2019, Sam was ordained as a pastor. Most recently, Sam and Lu were commissioned to start Genesis church by National Community Church. Sam earned his Ph.D. in organizational leadership and engages in bi-vocational work as a professor at Howard University. Lu can be seen juggling one of her many roles as a wedding planner, dietitian, or ministry leader. Both Sam and Lu have had the opportunity to lead in impactful ministries and churches. Sam and Lu envision Genesis as a life-giving, growing, passionate, non-denominational church where young families and individuals can explore their faith, deepen their understanding, and connect with others. Genesis focuses on offering meaningful worship experiences, biblical teaching, and volunteering opportunities that inspire personal and spiritual growth.
