FAQ

Can anyone sign?

At this stage, only organisations, institutions, and public authorities can sign, not individuals.

Is this just for libraries?

Not at all. Preserving our memory affects our entire society. Archives, museums, cultural heritage groups, and other memory institutions are all encouraged to sign. But we also ask for the support of governments, human (digital) rights organizations, consumer associations, etc. The more voices we gather, the stronger our case to policymakers.

What do signatories commit to?

By signing, institutions express support for the four rights:

1. To collect digital materials
2. To preserve them
3. To provide access
4. To cooperate across institutions

There are no financial or legal obligations—only a shared commitment to securing the future of memory online.
