Meet Fatema Jan­nat, who trav­elled 6,000 kilo­me­tres to Oulu, Fin­land seek­ing chal­lenge – and found a home where safe­ty, equal­i­ty, and curios­i­ty shaped her new begin­ning.

The week-long World Cham­pi­onship event will bring near­ly 2,000 enthu­si­asts and com­peti­tors from 45 dif­fer­ent coun­tries to Oulu on March 2–8. In addi­tion to cheer­ing, there’s plen­ty of oth­er excite­ment for the audi­ence, includ­ing a unique sauna world and the world’s largest ice sauna!

The elec­tron­ic music and north­ern arts fes­ti­val Frozen Peo­ple returns to Nal­likari in Oulu on Sat­ur­day, 28 Feb­ru­ary 2026, from 2 pm to 10 pm. This year, the event held by the frozen sea will be big­ger than ever before.

Watch the select­ed con­tes­tants show their deter­mi­na­tion to the whole world by get­ting into the Avan­to (Fin. ”ice hole”) and pitch­ing their start­up on Feb­ru­ary 26! The com­pe­ti­tion will be broad­cast­ed world­wide, and this year it is also open to the pub­lic in hon­or of Oulu2026.

A huge num­ber of peo­ple gath­ered at the Oulu2026 Open­ing Fes­ti­val to cel­e­brate the launch of the Euro­pean Cap­i­tal of Cul­ture year on 16–18 Jan­u­ary. Around 200 events across Oulu city cen­tre attract­ed over 250,000 vis­its, mak­ing it one of the largest events in Oulu’s his­to­ry.
