Born in Ibaraki, Japan, 1986. Graduated from Ibaraki University, College of Education, 2009. Tokyo University of the Arts, Graduate school of Film and New Media, Department of Animation, 2011. Awarded the Fellowship of Overseas Study Programme for Upcoming Artists (La Cinémathèque québécoise, Montreal, Canada) by the Agency for Cultural Affairs, Japanese Government, 2015-2016. "Datum Point" (2015) based on a poem by Japanese poet Yoshiro Ishihara, received several awards include the Ōfuji Noburō Award, The Mainichi Film Awards 2015, the Golden Zagreb Award, Animafest Zagreb 2016, the Best Experimental or Abstract Animation Award, Ottawa International Animation Festival 2016. "Miserable Miracle" (2023) inspired by Henri Michaux's book of poetry and drawings of the same name, was co-produced by Miyu Productions (France), the National Film Board of Canada (Canada) and NEW DEER (Japan), winning the Grand Prize for Short Animation at the Ottawa International Animation Festival 2023. In 2025, as the second installment of the Yanai Initiative's "Bungaku Bideo" project, the film "The Graffiti" (2025), based on the poem of Makoto Takayanagi, was completed and won the Off-Limits award at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival 2025, the Best Narrative Short Award, Ottawa International Animation Festival 2025.

折笠良 / Ryo ORIKASA
[略歴]
1986年生まれ。茨城大学教育学部、イメージフォーラム映像研究所、東京藝術大学大学院映像研究科で学ぶ。2015年9月-2016年8月、文化庁新進芸術家海外研修員としてモントリオールに滞在。2018年、NEFアニメーションのレジデンスプログラムに選ばれフランスフォントヴローに滞在。2020年、公益財団法人ポーラ美術振興財団の助成を受けてパリに滞在。 2023年、MIYUプロダクション（フランス）カナダ国立映画制作庁（カナダ）、ニューディアー(日本)の共同製作で、アンリ・ミショーによる メスカリン体験を描いた同名の詩画集をもとにアニメーション作品『みじめな奇蹟』(2023)を制作。2025年2月、柳井イニシアティブの企画「文学ビデオ」第２弾として高柳誠の同名の詩を原作とする『落書』(2025)が完成。

Japan's largest experimental film festival, the Image Forum Festival, is seeking innovative visual works.
There are no restrictions whatsoever on genre, technique, or duration—be it art, documentary, animation, drama, or beyond.
We await works that transcend established conventions and pioneer new horizons in visual expression.

♢イメージフォーラム・フェスティバル「東アジア・エクスペリメンタル・コンペティション」とは？
イメージフォーラム・フェスティバルは作家性、芸術性、創造性の高い映像作品を世界中から集めて上映する日本最大規模の映像アートの祭典です。
日本における先鋭的な若手映像作家の登竜門として知られてきた一般公募部門は、山村浩二、河瀨直美、井口昇、石田尚志、和田淳といった、現在国際的に活躍する映像作家、アーティストの作品が過去に入選しています。
また本年からは、新部門「ジャパン・エクスペリメンタル」を開設し、日本のエクスペリメンタル映画シーンの更なる可能性を提示します。
♢Image Forum Festival “East Asia Experimental Competition”
The Image Forum Festival is Japan's largest experimental film festival, gathering and screening highly creative, artistic, and auteur-driven films from around the world.
Its open call section, long recognized as a gateway for Japan's most cutting-edge young filmmakers, has previously selected works by internationally acclaimed filmmakers and artists such as Koji Yamamura, Naomi Kawase, Noboru Iguchi, Takashi Ishida, and Jun Wada.
Furthermore, starting this year, a new section, “Japan Experimental,” has been established to present the further potential of Japan's experimental film scene.
