About CodeWomen
CodeWomen is a training and empowerment programme by Open Cultural Center that supports women and gender non-conforming people with a migrant or refugee background to access opportunities in the technology sector. The project responds to the multiple barriers faced at the intersection of gender, migration, and access to education, creating a safe and supportive space for learning, confidence-building, and professional growth.
The programme offers practical tech training focused on web development and digital skills, combined with soft skills development, language support, and employability preparation. Participants learn in small groups and at an accessible pace, with an emphasis on collaboration, peer learning, and hands-on practice. Alongside technical skills, CodeWomen addresses topics such as workplace inclusion, self-advocacy, and career pathways in the tech industry.
Beyond training, CodeWomen places strong emphasis on mentorship and community. Volunteers from the tech and HR sectors support participants through guidance, role modelling, and career advice, while partnerships with companies and organisations help create pathways towards internships, job opportunities, and continued learning.
By centring gender equity and lived experience, CodeWomen not only increases access to digital careers but also strengthens participants’ confidence, autonomy, and sense of belonging—contributing to a more inclusive and diverse tech ecosystem.
