For a few years now, one of my hobbies has been rug hooking. I find it relaxing and, with any luck at all, the finished product will be something useable. Over time, I have experimented with different blending and coloring techniques as well as testing an assortment of backing products to find a favorite. Recently, I found a backing that comes in colors. This of course is not important when rug hooking as you hook the whole thing. The color of the backing is irrelevant. But I wanted to try creating some wall hangings and thought it might be unique to only hook the subject, leaving the colored backing alone. I looked through my folder of hooking themes and found a picture of a snowy owl that I have long threatened to hook, and now seemed the perfect time. So I did. The only thing it needs now is a home.
Fast forward to my weekly visit to the nursing home where I volunteeer. Last week, the recreational director said to me “there is a lady here that wants to meet you”. Her room overlooks the parking lot and she watches you come here every week. In fact, she thought you were my husband. I told her you were not, and asked if she would like to meet you. Would you have a few minutes?” At my age, it’s kind of hard to turn down an offer like that, so I said “sure”. We walked down the hall to “Gloria’s” room and we were introduced. Gloria gave me a big hug and a kiss on the cheek. We began to talk and soon were conversing like old friends. One of the first things she wanted to show me, right after pictures of her family, were some pictures of birds, and, wait for it, owls. She has an owl birdfeeder outside her window and an owl clock. And pictures.
We chatted for a while and I asked if she would like me to stop in and say hi from time to time. She said that would be wonderful. So next week, I will make a point of checking in on her and I think I will bring her a present. What do you think? Was that destiny, or what?

I never believed in Destiny until now ^_^ great story

What a lovely Owl you made. 🙂 It is very effective with the coloured backing too.
Isn’t it funny how things turn out sometimes? Serendipitous to make a new friend and find a common interest in Owls. 🙂

I definitely can relate to you interest in owls. My aunt Dorthy was an avid collector of everything 🦉. Towels, ashtrays, pins and yes a knit or hooked picture.
