Paul Jenkins – Founder
Paul brings extensive experience in multi-family construction project management and property operations to his role as founder of Ohanastar. Recognizing that buildings lacked critical social connection points, he developed solutions that unlock greater value from daily user interactions with their spaces. This enhanced building experience helps owners exceed pro-formas through improved tenant retention and faster lease-up velocity. Paul holds a degree in Construction Management from California State University Long Beach and maintains CCM and LEED Green Associate certifications.
When he’s not reimagining how people connect with their built environment, you’ll find him exploring architecture, playing soccer, traveling, or working on carpentry projects.
George McKinney – Chief Technical Officer
George is a seasoned technology leader based in Los Angeles who has dedicated his career to driving operational efficiency for businesses while mentoring the next generation of tech professionals. As an adjunct professor with the Los Angeles Community College District, he bridges industry expertise with education. At Ohanastar, George leads all software development and technology infrastructure, ensuring robust systems that power the platform’s innovative building connectivity solutions.
When he’s not architecting technology solutions, George enjoys strategic chess matches, mountain biking adventures, and exploring new destinations with his family.
SuperJem Marquez – Building Magnet, Event Leader & Producer
Super Jem is a Colombian-born, Los-Angeles-based renaissance woman who turns every stage, canvas, and sidewalk into her playground. By day she’s a velvet-voiced singer-songwriter; by night she’s a DJ, producer, painter, and actress whose wardrobe looks like a fashion editorial that collided with a street-art mural.
After 15 years producing star-studied events across NYC, she’s now sparking the West Coast with the same high-voltage creativity and boundless generosity. Her mantra? “The more you give to the world, the more the world gives back.” Believe it—just like her name, Super Jem is the real deal.
Hal Bastian – Advisor for Buildings, Neighborhood, and Community
Hal Bastian is a 43-year commercial real estate professional, who has been a leader in the Downtown Los Angeles (DTLA) Renaissance since 1994.
Fondly called “Mr Downtown” and the “Mayor of Downtown” by many, he has helped recruit over 300 restaurants, bars, nightclubs and retailers, including Ralphs, Bottega Louie and Whole Foods, and has facilitated billions of dollars worth of residential and commercial developments.
He also produces videos which can be seen on YouTube under the title of “What’s up, Downtown? – with Hal Bastian.“
Hal and his DTLA rescue dogs, Lucky, Nelly, and Bootsie live on Spring Street, two blocks south of City Hall.
Avery Keener – Web Developer
Avery serves as Ohanastar’s front-end developer, maintaining and enhancing the platform’s web applications with meticulous attention to detail and a passion for intuitive user experiences. His diverse background across creative disciplines brings a unique multimedia perspective to every project, ensuring that technology seamlessly meets user needs.
When he’s not crafting code, Avery explores the great outdoors through hiking, creates original music compositions, and designs elaborate fantasy worlds in Minecraft—channeling his creativity across both digital and natural landscapes.
Della Webster Berthold – Office Manager
Della brings over two decades of comprehensive administrative expertise to Ohanastar as office manager, where she ensures seamless daily operations and oversees every organizational detail. Her extensive background spans office management, accounts coordination, and personnel oversight, complemented by entrepreneurial experience as a former business owner.
When she’s not keeping the office running smoothly, Della tends to her flourishing garden, enjoys peaceful days on the water boating, and takes pride in bringing family together for memorable gatherings at her home.
Rediscovering Our Sense of Place
Our company is based in Los Angeles, one of the most famous cities in the world for being a melting pot of cultures and lacking a sense of center or belonging. There is also a feeling of isolation from a lack of family and personal history in the city. For many, this isolation is more than just a missing emotional and quality of life need; it is also a financial burden to individuals, families, and the city.
Our inspiration is based on the time when we knew each other and expected to help out. A time when we appreciated and understood our local land and had a sense of connection and reverence toward nature. We translated this to helping each other and connecting to place. We developed Ohanastar to do both and to unlock the financial and emotional value to building occupants and in turn to the ownership in a more valuable building.
We chose the Hawaiian Ohana because it is a living and easy-to-understand tribal cultural tradition. It represents sharing and connecting, and as a group striving to succeed. Ohana means “family”. And family means nobody will be left behind – or forgotten.
