Pennsic was a blast despite the mangling of my left ankle (rolled while runnning in woods battle #2). Highlights The rapier champions tourney was honorable, closely fought and a lot of fun even though the east lost 14-16. I won my bout with a clean light touch. The rapier field battles were an absolute blast. The army (east and allies) bought into my plan and executed it (and the enemy) better than I had ever imagined. It was the first rapier battle victory I have been involved in during my 5 years of fencing and it was so much fun listening to peoples battle stories afterward. The Rattan battles were excellent fun and I managed to fight in all of them save the last day when I was no longer able to walk. I love my spear (no snarking please). The second half of the war was also a blast. Working with the midrealm turned out to be a very good thing and I hope it happens again someday. Lowlights I missed most of the rapier woods battle because of the ankle. I still have no concrete news on the extent of the injury but it was certainly displaced (it didn't actually straighten out after falling until I glowered at it) and it might have some fractures. The x-rays became lost in space between the x-ray technicians and my doctor. In anycase, I will be fine and back out for the woods next pennsic. I also never got out to the archery field. I plan on learning to shoot with the mongolian technique (thumbring and all) after briefly trying and liking it last year. Oh well. Between rattan and rapier battles there was little time for anything else. On another topic. If anyone finds a vid of the field battles (rapier) please point me to them. I would like to compare what I think happened to what really happened. It would be fun to discuss eastern melee doctrine at KWAR over drinks. Anyone in? |

Practice
We have started up a practice on Monday nights in Quintavia and after just 2 weeks I have to say Wow! We have had 6 Ogres and 4 Osr's to this point. A total of 13 different Fencers and more planning to come. Awesome stabby goodness. We are gonna rock by PENNSIC. |

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
Can Mini's Fly? Last weekend I discovered (after a sudden swerve by the truck in front of me) a construction ladder lying across the entire middle lane of route 295s. I had a car on either side of me so it was hang on and see what happens time. No harm to the tires. No dents. No nothing. Not even a drag the ladder under the car for 2 miles. Wierd. |

Super Movies
I have slowed down in my travels for a week (to rest up for pennsic) and managed to catch some of the summer movies. I love movies. I just wish I had a death ray to eliminate those annoying kids in the theater (get off my lawn). In any case... -Iron Man = awesome -Hulk = mediocre (but better than the last one) -Indiana Jones = good (yay monkeys) -Hellboy = good (not great like the first one) -Hancock = ok (not as good as I hoped it would be) -Batman = awesome (nice and gritty) Seems like a super hero summer to me. I am looking forward to the someday Avengers movie too. The best news of all? They are making "The Watchmen". It was news to me when I saw the preview. I am so psyched. Its one of my favorites. Wouldn't a Rorschach fencing mask be cool? |

Vardo
So after working like an animal all weekend I have decided to try and finish the vardo before Pennsic. Wish me luck. It is about 1/3 done - the lower box is framed and sided as is the ledge (its a ledge style wagon). I have also finished the bed frame and storage area and just begun framing up the back wall and door. Its times like these where I wish I had listened to my dad when he tried to explain carpentry to me. As it is, I am pleased to still have all 10 fingers. |

Home Again, Home Again
Jiggity Jig. Back from the Gathering of Friends. The event lasts 10 days, but I was only there for the last 3. All in all it was very productive - I returned home with 5 prototypes and 2 more will be shipped to us this week. Now my vacation starts. I think I will start work on a vardo today. |

Gathering Update
Its my second day at the gaming event known as The Gathering of Friends. I am moving into this hotel today(they found an open room) so no more shuttles to and fro. This is a good thing. I was treated well by the staff at the other hotel but the commute was really tiresome. So far I have played a few production games and played many many prototypes. Its a lean year for good new games but I have found 4 so far that seem like they might be worthwhile. Last night I broke down and ate ice cream. :-) |

Alive in Columbus
I am here for a gaming convention know as The Gathering of Friends. That much is cool. Larry is sick (again) so I am alone. I forgot my phone and am running out of quarters. My flights were all delayed. I missed the last shuttle. My hotel overbooked and gave away my room. I am now in a different hotel from the convention. Grumble. |
