Navionics Nav-Chart (1996 – early 2010s)

The Nav-Chart was a small cartridge for use in chartplotters for marine navigation. Chartplotters used the stored electronic navigation charts (ENC) on a cartridge such as the Nav-Chart in conjunction with GPS data to help plot a course. Navionics and C-Map were the main suppliers of chartplotter charts.

Navionics introduced the Nav-Chart cartridge in 1996, and it was used in a number of chartplotters, includng models from Northstar, Furono and Raymarine. Each Nav-Chart cartridge could store up to 150 charts and port plans.

Navionics had previously introduced Microcharts using the PCMCIA format to store electronic charts, and also went on to use formats such as Compact Flash, MultiMediaCard, Secure Digital and microSD for chart distribution.
