nonPareil FAQs

What is nonPareil?

nonPareil is a nonprofit post-secondary organization that empowers adults on the autism spectrum through industry-aligned technical training, work-readiness development, and social engagement. The goal is to help individuals build meaningful futures and thrive personally and professionally.

What does “nonPareil” mean?

The word nonpareil means “having no equal” or “without parallel.” It reflects how we view every individual who attends nonPareil.

We believe each person’s abilities, strengths, and potential are truly unparalleled. In the same way, we are committed to providing an equally exceptional level of support to our students and their families.

At nonPareil, individual differences are not only accepted—they are celebrated and built upon. Within a warm and supportive community, students develop skills, gain confidence, and discover new opportunities.

Our mission is to help each student build their best future, take their next steps with confidence, and improve their overall quality of life.

Where is nonPareil located?

nonPareil currently operates locations in Austin, Houston, Plano, and Orlando. We also have an online program that is only available for individuals who are not near an in-person location.

Who can attend nonPareil?

nonPareil serves adults (18+) on the autism spectrum who are interested in gaining technical skills, work-readiness training, and real-world experience in a supportive environment.

Prospective students 17 years and older are welcome to tour nonPareil. To schedule a visit, please fill out the interest form. Tours provide a chance to explore the environment, meet staff, and learn more about the program.

If you are under 17, you’re still welcome to fill out an interest form. While private tours are for those 17 years and older, we’ll keep you on our mailing list to share updates on upcoming events you can attend, open houses, and program information, and we’ll reach out as soon as you’re eligible to schedule a tour.

Is nonPareil only for individuals with autism?

Yes. nonPareil is specifically designed to support adults on the autism spectrum. The student’s most current diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), including Autism, Asperger’s, or PDD-NOS, is required for admission, with or without comorbidities.

Our programs are intentionally designed to support each individual’s strengths, learning style, and goals, creating an environment where students can grow both personally and professionally.

When can I start at nonPareil? Is it open year-round? Do I have to wait until fall?

You don’t have to wait until fall to start at nonPareil. nonPareil offers multiple start dates throughout the year, with new terms beginning in January, April, July, and October.

Each term lasts 12 weeks, allowing students to join at several points during the year and progress at a consistent pace.

nonPareil operates year-round to provide consistent training and support. The program observes major public holidays and includes a one-week break in both the summer and winter.

We recommend completing the interest form early to secure your preferred start term.

What types of programs or tracks are offered? Does nonPareil offer certifications?

nonPareil offers some tracks that align with industry-recognized certifications. nonPareil also offers a variety of industry-aligned tracks designed to build both technical and professional skills, including digital arts, animation, 3D modeling, audio and video production, digital media and entertainment arts, and a performing arts track.

While certifications are available in select tracks, nonPareil also emphasizes developing real-world, portfolio-based skills through hands-on experience. Students also build essential work-readiness skills, such as communication, teamwork, and problem-solving, helping prepare them for meaningful employment opportunities.

Track offerings may vary by location and term based on student interest and program needs.

How much does the program cost?

Program costs vary depending on location and track. We encourage families to fill out an interest form to get more information and schedule a tour with the site to learn more about specific program costs.

Are there financial assistance options available?

Financial assistance options may be available depending on location and individual circumstances. Our team can help guide families through possible funding sources and support options based on availability of the site.

Is transportation provided?

Transportation is not provided, and students and families are responsible for arranging travel to and from the program.

Many locations offer convenient access to public transportation, disability transportation services, peer carpooling, and other local options. Availability varies by location, and specific transportation resources can be discussed during your tour, along with additional location-based information.

Do students need prior experience to join?

No prior experience is required. nonPareil meets students where they are and helps them build skills over time. Whether someone is just starting or already has experience, there is room to grow.

Is there a waitlist?

At times, there may be a waitlist depending on location and program demand. Submitting an interest form early is the best way to stay informed and secure a spot.

Is there an assessment or test required for admission?

There is no formal test required for admission. Instead, we use an intake process that includes conversations and evaluations to better understand each individual’s strengths, interests, and goals.

As part of the admissions process, documentation of an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) diagnosis is required, along with additional background information. This helps ensure the program is a good fit and allows us to provide the right level of support from the start.

How do I apply?
