... so I guess this must be shove.

After a slightly disasterous attempt, I finally more or less finished the icon requests made for me and resolved to never, ever take requests that don't require images again. Or at least until I forget this resolution the next time I put up requests. But given my recent lack of inspiration and massive amount of time on my hands -- I knew I should have taken a summer class -- I'm taking requests of an entirely different sort.

If you'd like to request a tutorial from me, either regarding a particular icon or a technique, I'm taking tutorial requests. Just a couple rules:

01. If you want a particular icon, link the icon please.
02. If you want a technique, link an icon using that technique. Please.
03. I'm only going to take the first five requests for now. I might take more when I finish this if I even get five in the first place.

Remember, anything posted to nihil_est is fair game, but you'll probably have better luck with the stuff posted this year. That's over 500 icons (I know, I know) so still plenty to choose from.

Also, as I'm lacking inspiration, here's a poll! Feel free to take it.
Poll #1009464 What should I icon next?

The subject of today's tutorial will be going over how to make an icon that combines the use of Black&White with color, going from this cap to make:

into

Please note that I'm using PSP8, but I looked up how to do some of the steps in PS (and for Mac users), so it should be very easily translatable.

Onto the Tutorial:Collapse )

If you have any questions, comments, or examples of where you did this yourself using this tutorial please feel free to share. Thanks!

Because hobbit_hunter requested it, I'm going to do my first tutorial. Please bear with me as, because I was in a hurry, I didn't save all the pieces and thus am recreating this from memory. Some things might be slightly off, but this is the general technique I used and the things involved.

Today we're going to be going from this picture (warning: large), then:
Make it from this base to this icon:

Please note this tutorial looks longer than it actually is because I happen to be incredibly verbose, not because it's that complicated. Also, I'm using PSP 8.0, though I'll try to explain in general terms what I did.

My first tutorial under the cut...Collapse )

And thus I reach the end of my very first tutorial. If anything is unclear please tell me so that I can edit it and if anyone uses this to make icons of their own I would LOVE to know. Thanks!
