This session focuses on positioning and movement in and around the penalty area as part of the U.S. Refereeing Way.

Using match footage and practical examples, the session will explore how referees position themselves to recognise key incidents inside the penalty area. Discussion will focus on movement, angles of view, anticipation, and maintaining the best possible position to make credible decisions.

Particular attention will be given to recognizing holding, challenges, and other incidents that require clear judgement in the penalty area.

The aim is to support match officials in applying strong positioning habits so they are well placed to recognize and manage the most critical moments of a match.

This session focuses on the movement and positioning of assistant referees as part of the U.S. Refereeing Way.

Using match footage and practical examples, the session will explore how assistant referees move and position themselves to support accurate decisions during active phases of play. Discussion will focus on maintaining alignment with the second to last defender, movement during transitions, and positioning that supports offside decisions and incidents in the penalty area.

Particular attention will be given to awareness, communication with the referee, and the role assistant referees play in supporting key decisions during the match.

The aim is to support assistant referees in developing strong movement habits so they remain well positioned to recognize and assist with important decisions throughout the game.
