Spent all weekend finishing the final case of the main game of Phoenix Wright, Ace Attorney: Spirit of Justice.

Oh. Em. Gee. I have SO MANY FEELINGS and want a few days to absorb it AT LEAST...but alas, day job beckons already and I should go to bed.

This week I’ll be Designated Parent for my siblings, so I should rest up while I can. It’ll be a fun but exhausting week.

BUT OMG THE GAME THOUGH. Must not go find fanfiction. Must not combine Apollo Justice ships into 1 polyamorous ship (why not? it would be perfect!!!). Must be Responsible Adult and go to bed!

In unrelated news, contemplating friends-locking posts because The Internet. Thoughts on pros and cons, my fellow DWers?

Hm... Apparently you can import your content from LJ on this site.

I could potentially import my fic journal. I could potentially import years of entries. I could potentially have two eras of online journaling in one journal. Also, tags.

Is importing LJ content worth sacrificing the blank slate of DW, though?

Has anyone done an import from LJ or InsaneJournal? What did you think of the results?

mechante_fille made a post to start us off on this LiveJournal–DreamWidth-switchover adventure, and I'm all about solidarity and creating strength in numbers...so. Hi. I'm newtypeshadow, and it's time to get used to making journal posts again.

There's so much I need to modify about this journal to make it home, but I'll save that for later.

What I really want to say is I hope this works.

Carpal tunnel, depression, and a full-time job banished me from computer use around the time LJ was beginning to fall to the Russians (cue explosions and exoduses and waffling between fledgling DW and LJ's sporadic mass evacuations), and by the time I got my symptoms under control years later, and had time enough to have an internet life again, most of my friends had moved onto other platforms that didn't feel as safe (read: cannot be locked) or communal, and I felt like I'd both abandoned them without explanation, and been abandoned by them in turn.

I still feel isolated and alone, compared to how connected I used to be with everyone. Some of those years-long friendships are just...gone. They've moved on. If it's even possible to rebuild, I don't know how. That's why I'm here.

Posting to LJ let me have friendship-community and writing-community in ways I've struggled and failed to duplicate in other mediums. For example, I had an LJ fic journal (newtypeshadow46) where I posted all the stories and essays and poems and songs I wrote soon after I wrote them. It was a writing archive of rough drafts and revisions, and friends would read and comment encouragement along the way. While I write stories because it makes me happy, I'm more inclined to write stories if I know friends are waiting for them—friends who want to read more and are happy to say so.

After LJ, my writing productivity took a nosedive. It's improved some now that I can type again, but it's still nowhere near what it was.

My hope for this journal, and the small community of friends who've decided to make a real attempt to move here, make a home here, re-create a community here, is that I gain back a writing community of friends who are excited to write and share and comment and enthuse about and be inspired by the genres we all love, and the people who are posting.

My hope for this entry is that I'm not alone in wanting those things, and I won't be alone here on DreamWidth.

Thane hated office holiday parties. He'd rather be in a graveyard raising putrified corpses than stuck in his boss's cramped apartment on Christmas Eve pretending he, too, had been infected with Holiday Cheer.

The short of it: I want to make newtypeshadow Friends Only.

I post a lot of personal stuff on this journal--always have. I began using LJ when it wasn't safe to write about my life in the notebooks I carried everywhere. The internet was the least likely place for my RL circles to discover me.

That is no longer the case. But by now, I'm practically hard-wired to use newtypeshadow for personal rambles, venting, and nonsense.

Which always made it weird to post stories here, honestly--like inviting people to read a page in my diary, and expecting them not to pay any attention to the page next to it, even though it's right there, and hey, peripheral vision!

There have been charming new developments in my LJ & online life, however. For one, my web site; for another, I'm starting to use AO3 for my fanfiction, and taitfics for my original fiction. I outlined the plan for all that in this post.*

I know not everyone wants to read my rambling when they could be reading stories instead, so I won't be offended if people de-friend this LJ in favor of joining/watching taitfics. I'm doing what works best for me**, and I hope you will too. ♥
