The Brief
The headline to the client's brief was 'traditional Georgian architecture fit for 21st century living' and boy did we have fun delivering it!
A great deal of time and care was taken in researching Georgian principles of design, details and materials for this project. Portland stone was detailed for the plinth, window & door surrounds, quoins, string and cornice course. Working directly with the quarry, our designers detailed over fifty individual stones and provided co-ordinated stone layout drawings as part of the construction design. Whilst the main body of the house is finished in render the garage building is constructed from clay brick in flemish bond with lime based mortar. Again Portland stone details follow through to this building. The garage building features a traditional archway which both serves as an undercover parking area giving access to the back door but also as the access to a traditional farm courtyard area complete with oak framed stable building.
