January 2023 done and I am still persona non grata on Facebook

But stats here are booming. That of course is partly because my redesign involved a lot of linking, but the stats do show that despite no referrals coming from FB numbers are well and truly up quite apart from that artificial boost.

Yesterday morning: unable to wish my cousin Ray Hampton Christison a Happy Birthday!

Mastodon is booming!

Yes, all my Facebook activity — except the memories and music — I have moved over to  https://mastodon.world/@neil43! Sad about the memories and music, and ability to comment/like on FB though I suspect when normal transmission from FB resumes much may well stay on Mastodon where my followers are increasing!

In fact from now on when Facebook opens for me again I will NEVER post anything other than the blandest, most vanilla items ever. I will be mainly passive, liking stuff and sharing cats — if I had one. Memories (so long as they won’t offend Mrs Grundy, Putin or Sky News Oz) and music will be the mainstay. I will urge people to visit this blog but will post no updates. Russian and Ukrainian vloggers will be off limits. I will be as boring as all hell!

I will post cat videos!

I will warn everyone of possibly offensive content!

Please note that the following image contains material that may be offensive to vegetarians, vegans and a major world religion.

Go to my Mastodon if you want what you used to get on Facebook.

Except for keeping FB as a valuable way of keeping in touch, I am practically leaving it. I advise all friends there not just to rely on Facebook any more for news of or from me, but to bookmark my blog and visit it, and regularly to check Mastodon where such things as the Russian vloggers may now be found.

And on outfits like Meta this from Cory Doctorow on David Pakman is interesting:

Go Mastodon!

FB friend William Christison in Spain commented on my blog post yesterday: “WTF?? No reason given? Could it be Z trolls targeting your posts?”

Who knows! But William is also on Mastodon too. Readers here should follow! It takes getting used to but it’s worth it, as this Mastodon user says:

A few of my observations since joining #Mastodon:
people here are KIND and as awkward as I am

— not inundated w/ influencers or self-promos 24/7 (which means less sycophantic, mob behaviors)

— whole lotta intelligent people on here—wowza! So many academics. I love it.

— NO ADS = GODSEND

— no pressure to log on & interact for fear of Mr. Algorithm suppressing my voice. So many platforms punish you for not logging in every day & creating content for content’s sake

I can’t tell Facebook about this at the moment, but the Russian and Ukrainian vloggers have not been idle

As you know I can’t tell Facebook, being blocked from posting temporarily. The specific reason for this I have no idea as Facebook has not mentioned any specific post or share. But yes, I hope there are those that find my selection of East European vlogs offensive. Because they are so good! Much better than most of what you will see about the dreadful situation in the East of Europe.

Roman the Russian

Weird Australian conservative Christians who moved to Russia because they really think Putin is a bit of a saint….

Daniil’s 1420

Zack the Russian interviewed

And in his latest on one of Russia’s leading propagandists

“I’ve spent a week watching Vladimir Solovyov’s statements and lives to analyze and show his inner opportunist nature. I threw up a couple of times after listening to hours of propaganda so that you can watch it in an edited way. In this video, we will get deep into that trash container called “The Biography of Vladimir Solovyov” and track his journey of becoming the most aggressive Russian propagandist responsible for brainwashing Russians. Enjoy!” — Zack

Natasha

Ukraine vlogs I will select in another post. Meanwhile I will be sharing this on Mastodon because I can.

After offending someone on Facebook I repent in sackcloth and ashes…

Perhaps is was my use of the word “termites” — I dare not say in what context. Perhaps it was words like “Orange Zany” referring to the greatest mind in the Universe. Maybe someone did not like my choice of vloggers in Eastern Europe. Who knows? But I obviously needed a bit of cancelling by the Committee of Unkown Meta Faces. So while I can see what you are all up to on Facebook I can for the next couple of days neither post, nor message, nor reply.

I have seen the error of my opinionated ways, so from this moment on I dedicate myself to blandness in blog and Facebook, lest any be offended. I take my cue from that icon of Australian intellectual life, Middleton’s Rouseabout. Here Slim Dusty does justice to Henry Lawson’ s immortal youth.

Type of a coming nation,
In the land of cattle and sheep,
Worked on Middleton’s station,
‘Pound a week and his keep.’

On Middleton’s wide dominions
Plied the stockwhip and shears;
Hadn’t any opinions,
Hadn’t any ‘idears’.

Facebook would have loved him it seems. I wonder if lunch posts will offend?

Mind you one lunch last week did offend most unexpectedly, but the effects of that are pretty much gone…. I did mention it in some detail on Facebook though. Could the chef have complained, though I was at pains not to blame him?

Whatever, this is what now confronts me whenever I try to do anything on Facebook at the moment.

I visited the Help Centre. I eventually was able to send three objections out into the apparent vacuum at Meta….

Well folks, I carry on —

At Mastodon!

Do visit — the address is over in the sidebar on this blog, but to save time: https://mastodon.world/@neil43 And three new followers over there have appeared since that lunch post went up!
