music: Mountain Goats - See America Right
In super exciting news, they have the Decemberists' Always the Bridesmade: Vol. 1 and 2 and just a shit ton of other stuff that I HAVE TO HAVE!
Also, there's a used bookstore right next door, where I got a copy of Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep! It was a good day for gratuitous spending.

Groan

mood: mildly amused
music: Fleet Foxes - Tiger Mountain Peasant Song
Did anybody else know that the Warped Tour was still going on? They're actually in their 14th year, although now they're in Van's Warped Tour. Here I would groan about the corporatization of punk, but there's little point. That argument just seems lost at this point. How did pip-squeak boys whining over stale guitars become the acceptable incarnation of punk rock for this or any generation? I drew the line when I saw a kid with makeup made to look as though he'd been crying tears of blood. Seriously, I had to overcome the urge to gauge out his eyes.
Best Tents: Two separate vegetarian information tents, complete with cute vegetarian girls. Also, the Obama Campaign tent where I got to sign up to help out with stuff.
Anyway, my friend David and I stuck around for nearly four hours, until we just couldn't take the massive crowds and all the bands that sounded EXACTLY the same. We missed Reel Big Fish, which I would liked to have seen, but there was no way I was going to sit through the rest of that crap. For our efforts we both got gnarly sunburns.
Also: I got Fleet Foxes' self-titled today. It is very melodic and pleasant, a welcome change from bubble-gum punk.

music: Smashing Pumpkins - Ava Adore
Thanks to Amanda for letting me know on Facebook, today (June 2nd, for another hour here in CO) is the anniversary of the Smashing Pumpkins album Adore. This is my favorite album from my favorite band (old Pumpkins, not new Pumpkins). This, for me, was their last really great album It's not their most cohesive album, nor is it their most eclectic, but it is their most ambitious. Really, it's the emotional attachment that does it. I've had this record since I was high school, and it's been there for me on some many countless days. It's like a friend that I can see all the faults of, but still love insanely. I can't really say anymore, because I'm pretty much totally biased.

music: kimya dawson - the beer
I am not a vegetarian so you can tell me how much you love meat, and that you could never stop eating it. I don't advertise that I don't consume dead animal flesh, but I can't help that it comes up in conversation on occasion. When it does, don't talk about eating the muscles of some dead cow. Don't talk about how delicious it is. I don't want to hear about it. It's not cute. You are not being funny or even remotely original. Nearly everyone does the same goddamn thing.
As most of my friends can attest to, I am more than capable of taking a joke. We joke all the time about my various flaws and shortcomings. However, some people have convictions which they hold close to their hearts. It's common decency to not attack those convictions unless otherwise provoked. I am not trying to convert anyone, so I can't imagine what I do to provoke such behavior. If you ask me about my diet and why I choose it, then I might tell you because you just fucking asked. That isn't an invitation to tell me about how you love eating a pig that was probably more intelligent than your dog. I don't care what you put into your body, whether it be pork, chicken, alcohol, LSD, or drain cleaner. Although, chances are I don't like you, so let me go ahead and suggest the drain cleaner.

oh, carrie
Jan. 15th, 2008 | 12:29 pm
music: Ben Gibbard - Indian Summer + Carolina
In case none of you were aware, I am in love with Carie Brownstien. One day Sleater-Kinney will get back together and I'll have a chance to see her high kicks while she rocks out to "I Wanna Be Yr Joey Ramone". Until that day, I'll have to make do with blog entries and these random Thunderant videos (don't know how I feel about them, Fred Armisen is getting a little too close for my taste).
In the meantime, everybody tell George to move to CO. And while you are at it, why don't you move out there too. It could be like a big Bavarian Exodus.

music: sebadoh - truly great thing
Hopefully I'll be home by Tuesday, but these roadtrips with mis padres tend to always last longer than they are supposed to. Por ejemplo, I left last Saturday and was supposed to be home by tomorrow. Also on the money issue, I'm probably going to start picking up hours at Troy's again. Le sigh.
I don't really plan on being in the WC much in my remaining time. It strikes me that this is the first lj post in... a long time. There's not much use for this thing. I'm going to start the Gulag Archipelago and fall asleep.
