The Genesis Story of My Home Book

In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in Louisiana it was recorded that over 80% of homeowners renovating their home fell victim to builder fraud. Over $9.2 Billion dollars in contractor fraud in 2021 and $9.3 Billion in 2023 was recorded all over the nation in the aftermath of natural disasters.

Dishonest general contractors were coming from all over the area price gouging building materials, ordering more than necessary and overall taking advantage of helpless unprepared homeowners. In all, the amount of building fraud totaled in the millions of dollars.

When Hurricane Harvey devastated the Houston area, my home was one of those flooded by the 51 inches of water that poured down over the course of 5 days. In all, our home was filled with 12 inches of water.

Within 24 hours we had ripped up our wood floors and rugs. Within 48 hours we had torn out our sheetrock and insulation. And within 4 days we had removed all of our furniture, cabinets, appliances and personal items.

The demolition work was one that we were able to figure out. But when it came to renovating, I was left clueless. I did what thousands of others did, I began calling contractors to get bids on rebuilding.

And just like hundreds or thousands of other families I was told I needed more material than I needed that cost more than what they were worth. The problem was that I did not know that I was being bamboozled because I knew nothing about my house, what material I needed or how much I needed.

This project is the answer to that problem.

My desire is to place in your hand’s valuable information. And at the same time help you be better prepared and equipped when you need to get your house back to a desired state.
