What do we do?
All animals are within our scope – regardless of species, or legal and social status. This includes companion animals, farmed animals, fur animals, laboratory animals and wildlife – particularly those most excluded, forgotten or without social support.
Beyond the boundaries of species lies the chance to create a better future for all beings
The Mushika Foundation is dedicated to genuine systemic change.
Guided by the principles of effective altruism, resources are directed where they can bring the greatest improvement to animal welfare.
At the heart of the mission is a deep connection between humans and nature – the foundation of peaceful coexistence among species.
Our mission
Why Mushika?
Mushika (Sanskrit for “rat” or “mouse”) is the rat that serves as the mount of the Hindu god Ganesha.
In many cultures, the rat is associated negatively, but as Ganesha’s companion it gains the status of a sacred animal.
This emphasizes that every life, regardless of how it is perceived by society, deserves respect and protection.
By referencing Hindu texts, we highlight the universality of our mission of animal care, which transcends the boundaries of species and cultures.

Mushika, because our mission knows no boundaries of species, prejudice, or stereotypes. Every rat deserves its own Ganesha.
