Milestones that shaped who we are
1985
Founded in 1985 as a civil engineering firm focused primarily on land development projects in Waterloo Region, MTE was built on founder Bruce Scheifele’s vision to provide clients with “more than engineering.”
1988
The addition of a municipal division marked the beginning of our journey towards becoming a multi-disciplinary consulting firm.
What started as three civil engineering professionals has grown to over 500 employees with varying backgrounds in civil, structural building and environmental engineering, geoscience and land surveying.
2002
Our staff doubled in size when we opened an office in Burlington to provide engineering services to the Hamilton Halton region.
2003
MTE enters the Structural Engineering space through the acquisition of Sze Straka Engineers. The company was founded in 1985 by Yulun Sze, Ph.D., P.Eng. and Peter Straka, Ph.D., P.Eng.
2007
Frontline Environmental expanded MTE’s environmental engineering services. Frontline was founded in
1995 by partners that included Peter Gray, P.Geo., and Robert Fedy, P.Eng.
2009
Through the acquisitions of McNeil Surveying, GlobalTox International Consultants and Waterloo Geoscience Consultants, MTE expands its services and deepens its expertise in Surveying, Toxicology and Risk Assessment, and Hydrogeology.
2010
A year of continued growth. MTE opens its Stratford office and expands in Burlington with the acquisition of Finelli Engineering. Ted Rowe is also appointed President – he continues his leadership with MTE today.
2016
MTE expanded its Civil Engineering services in London through the acquisition of EngCET Engineering, which was established by partners including Randy Lucas, C.E.T., and Kyle McIntosh, P.Eng.
2017
The acquisition of Holstead and Redmond in London added capacity to MTE’s legal and land surveying capabilities. Pat Levac, OLS was the company’s owner at the time of the acquisition.
2019
MTE expands into Ecological Consulting with the acquisition of BioLogic. The London-based company was started in 1996 by partners that included Dave Hayman, M.Sc.
Hasting and Aziz launched MTE’s structural engineering services in the London area. The firm was established in 1954 and was owned by Associates that included Jeffrey Reid, P.Eng., and James Gillett, P.Eng.
2021
The Acquistion of Atkins + Van Groll launches MTE’s Structural Engineering services in the Toronto area. The firm was founded in 1997 by partners Jonathan Atkins, P.Eng., and Raymond van Groll, P.Eng.
2023
The acquisition of Milman & Associates in Toronto expands and strengthens our structural and Prime Consulting services, particularly in the industrial sector. The firm was established in 2001 by Boris Milman.
2025
The acquisition of B.I.G Consulting strengthens MTE’s Environmental and Geotechnical services and broadens our reach in the Greater Toronto Area. The firm was established in 2016 by B.I.G.’s managing partners Darko Strajin and Prem Manicks.
The acquisition of RIZZ Engineering strengthens MTE’s Structural Engineering expertise, particularly in precast concrete design and Tekla modelling, enhancing our capabilities across Ontario. The firm was founded by Ryan Schwindt.
