For this wkend, we chose our local Fatburger.

Fatburger combo for him.

As for me, I now have to restrict carbohydrates and sugars.

I was good: just a Fatburger burger, and a glass of water. No soda. No fries.

Next time, I might get the next size bigger burger, as without fries, kinda felt I could have eaten more.

So, from this month until my Last Day, subject to chg if Dr chg's anything, is a self-reminder of my medicine schedule for A1C and cholesterol.

Upon wake-up: coffee + 81mg aspirin.

With breakfast: multivitamin that has more than 100% daily B12 (one medicine can decrease B12 in the body).

Noon: cholesterol medicine.

5pm: dinner + A1C medicine.

It seems my (now diagnosed, above desired) A1C can affect a person's vision.

Now explains why I went from not needing reading glasses a year ago, to now needing them.

Noticed that even with +1.00 reading glasses, was starting to have trouble reading my PC screen and books were out of focus enough that it was hard making out letters in traditional font size in paperback books.

**rueful sigh**

So, just went to my local CVS, took a small print paperback, tested other reading glasses, and purchased a +2.00 reading glasses.

Again, **rueful sigh**

Hopefully my A1C will respond to the medicine my Dr recently prescribed, and my vision will not get "scary" bad.

The book is a collection of short stories. Science fiction. Was a B-Day gift from my Middle Offspring.

The stories I found the most interesting or thought-provoking or fun were:

  • I have no mouth, and I must scream (horror)
  • Jeffty is five
  • Paladin of the lost hour

Went to my health care provider recently. Had scheduled a routine physical.

Went with some self health concerns that I wrote down, to remember to present to the Dr. Also wrote down that I had been remiss on doing routine physicals, and likely would need get vaccine boosters, tests, and such.

Dr ordered a big handful of labs, that were mostly blood draws, and urine.

Lab results indicated my A1C was above the desired range.
Lab results indicated my cholesterol was above the desired range.

And yep, need to get some vaccines and boosters.

Now I have two new prescriptions. One for each issue.

Also, since now sugars and starches need to be restricted from my diet, have cold-turkey given up soda, and sweets.

I will miss them! I have had a sweet tooth my whole life. Have been a pasta and noodle fan most of my life. But, they are now bad for me, so have to limit them from my food intake, mostly likely until my Last Day. **rueful sigh**

EDIT 20260612 - So, have been reading online as much as I can about my new prescription medicines for my health issues.

Have also been reading about A1C and its effects on the body, and what elevated amounts can damage. It can cause nerve damage. Nerve damage throughout the body. Can affect sensation (tingling), can damage the nerves that regulate digestion, the heart, everything.

Oh, and elevated A1C damages the kidneys, too!

So, scary stuff!

Am going to do my best to trust my Dr, and do as directed, to the letter.

Early voting rocks! Walked in to my local polling place at about 10:30am. No line. Walked right up with my sample ballot. Finished voting in about 5min.

My next life goal is to reach retirement, and enjoy retirement.

But, if Fate decides I will not get as much life as my retirement goal (to get to make it to 70 years old or so), then:

I have pondered this one on-and-off for several days now, and have the current realization of:

Bucket list:

I do not have any destinations that feel like "must visit before I die."
I do not have any books that feel like "must read before I die."
etc....

So, with the above, it is not really a Bucket List, but my realization is:

Try to support My Little Family as much as I can.
Try to just be "happy" as much as I can.
Try to spend as much time with My Little Family as much as I can.
Try to, in a non-creepy way, as much as I can, tell them they are loved, that I care about them,
that I want to support them and want them to also be happy as they grow and live their lives.

That's it.

researching candidates and ballot measures for the June2nd 2026 election - 626 - vote

Ugh! This time it is painful! So many candidates. Burning hours and hours researching them online.

There are approximately __sixty__ candidates for Calif Governor?! C'MON!

But, doing it. So I can be an informed voter, and vote accordingly.

EDIT 20260524 Ugh! Spent 1/2 day yesterday, and 1/2 day today researching all the candidates and issues. BUT, FINALLY, have finished researching, and have marked-up my sample ballot, and am ready to vote.

This time the choice was In-n-Out burger.

We each had a Double-Double. Shared a single fries. Two sodas. Two chocolate shakes.

Had a nice time.

Was quite affordable. US$30 total.

2011 Honda Pilot - 1st big drive since new front axles installed

Spouse took our 2011 Honda Pilot on its first big drive. The first one since replacing the front CV axles.

The big drive was to bring home our Oldest Offspring from their college dorm, to be home during the Summer.

Their college dorm is about 350miles away. So the total big drive mileage was about 700miles.

Spouse reports car did fine. No issues.

Upon return, I inspected the car visually, including all fluids. Checked power steering fluid, brake fluid, ATF, coolant, and motor oil. The only fluid that was low was the engine oil. It was still in the normal range, but at the bottom of the normal range.

Added about 1qt of 5w20 full synthetic, to bring the engine oil to closer to the top (full) range of the dipstick.

So, will just have to keep to the habit to monitor engine oil a bit more often, for now on.

Kudos to the folks that designed and assembled our 2011 Honda Pilot! It is aging well!
