MOVES2014b 2.2

MOVES2014b is the United States Environmental Protection Agency’s Motor Vehicle Emission Simulator for estimating emissions and energy use from on-road mobile sources. It helps agencies, planners, and researchers quantify emissions of criteria pollutants, air toxics, and greenhouse gases from cars, trucks, buses, and motorcycles across a wide range of vehicle technologies and fuels.

Key capabilities:

• Produces emission inventories and emission rates at national, county, and project scales, with temporal resolution from annual down to hourly.
• Covers a broad set of pollutants, including NOx, VOCs, CO, PM2.5/PM10, air toxics, greenhouse gases, and associated energy consumption.
• Includes a comprehensive default database and allows local customization of inputs such as vehicle activity, fleet characteristics, fuels, temperatures, and control programs.
• Supports State Implementation Plan development, transportation conformity analyses, and project-level assessments, as well as academic and policy research.
• Offers a Windows-based interface and command-line execution, with a relational database backend for managing inputs and outputs.

MOVES2014b is a maintenance update to earlier MOVES2014 releases, providing refinements, bug fixes, and selected data updates to improve consistency and performance for regulatory and planning applications. EPA provides accompanying guidance, example datasets, and documentation to support proper use and interpretation of results.
