DIY: Wood Crate Platform Bed

Platform Bed made from Wood Crates

My first DIY post!

For this first DIY, I decided to feature an idea I had for creating a storage platform for my bed. Though I didn’t see this idea on Pinterest, there were many other similar ideas, and as for many things that I find on Pinterest, I didn’t know I wanted this until I saw it.

The first idea that I saw was this Farmhouse Storage Bed by Birds and Soap, Soap and Birds. I really liked the idea of having some storage space under the bed, especially since I was becoming tired of the bed frame that I currently had. There are so many great idea for this storage platform on Pinterest that I didn’t exactly know where to start. There were several people who used two bookcases from IKEA. The closest IKEA is 5 hours away and it costs a fortune to have anything shipped from them, so I went online in search of something else that would do the trick. I was unsuccessful at finding anything for a price that I could live with. For about four months I battled with what to do, and even considered trying to build something myself, but I am not good with tools so I wanted an easy idea. I had pretty much given up hope when I happened to be browsing Pinterest – once again – and saw that someone had created a coffee table with some wood crates.

Sanctuary :: “Fata Morgana”

1x03ReviewFirst, let me just say that in the past this has not been one of my favorite episodes. It seemed to lack something that later episodes had; however, the more I watch it, the more it grows on me. This show just continues to amaze me.
“Fata Morgana” introduces us to the Cabal (Cabalis Nocturnum) who become part of a story arc that covers season 1 and some of season 2. I talked about this quite a bit in my review of the Webisodes, so I’m not really going to get into that. However, the scene in the Webisodes, where Terrance tells Magnus the story of the Morgana was so much cooler than Magnus explaining it to Will in this episode. But I guess they needed to make time for other things, plus it gave them a chance to include Will, Ashley, and Big Guy rather than just Helen and Terrance. We lost a Stargate actor, but gained another one: Chuck Campbell. He played Chuck the Technician in SG-1/SGA and he plays Two-Faced Guy in Sanctuary. I am really impressed with the list of people who have starred in both Stargate and Sanctuary – I don’t know why, but it brings a smile to my face. If you want to see a really great list, check [this] out. I knew there was some crossover, but I definitely missed some!

Sanctuary :: “Sanctuary For All”

This review will cover both parts “Sanctuary For All”. And I do have to warn you that there are spoilers for random episodes through the 3rd season. The first episode was slightly slow in development, but it was certainly interesting enough to catch my attention. The second part was an incredible introduction to Jack the Ripper (even though I didn’t know that was who he was at first – I didn’t watch the Webisodes until much later). These two episodes had me asking so many questions that I couldn’t help but keep watching! I love that we didn’t get all the information right away, and that even once we learned that Helen is 157 years old we still didn’t really know what was going on. This may frustrate people, but it just makes me happy. And I think that this is what Amanda was talking about in the quote:

“I don’t wanna to be spoon-fed the answers! I don’t want somebody … going ‘Here, this is what we mean by that!’ I wanna wonder, I wanna ask some weird questions and not get answers, and go ‘I guess I’ll have to watch next week’s and find out what the hell they were talking about.’”

Since these episodes are very much an introduction to the characters and what they do, I thought I would gear this review toward them. To help myself look at this episode from the view point of seeing it for the first time, I got a friend (who has never seen the show before) to do the rewatch with me. It worked like a charm!

Sanctuary :: Webisodes 5-8

I had not watched the Webisodes for quite a while, so I was excited to do a rewatch and write a review. My intention was to just write a review for webisodes 1-4, because from what I could remember 5-8 were very similar to “Fata Morgana”. After my rewatch of them last night, I realized that I really needed to write a review for them. This may jump around a little bit. I couldn’t decide how I was going to organize my thoughts – but I think it is pretty much chronological.

Sanctuary :: Webisodes 1-4

Thought a scratched disc was going to stop me from rewatching the webisodes, but I fixed it! I was just going to give my thoughts on the Webisodes alone, but it was too hard not to keep comparing it to “Sanctuary For All” (1×1) so this is more than a review, it is more like a comparison. First, I just love how many Stargate people are in this show: Amanda Tapping, Christopher Heyerdahl, David Hewlett, Kavan Smith, Ellie Harvie, Chuck Campbell, and of course Peter DeLuise! Did I miss any? Secondly….There is no Henry! What a difference his humor makes.

I love and don’t love how they opened the Webisodes with the 1888 London scene. With it at the beginning, I think that it sets the feeling for the show – the characters, where they have come from – but I also feel like it gives a little too much away right off the bat. The aspect of the show that I love the most is that we aren’t given all the information at one time, we have to wait and figure it out. I think that in “Sanctuary For All” we are left confused, much as Will is, as to what has really happened between these two. And for some reason I like being confused.
