Frequently Asked Questions

Can I supply my own materials for assembly projects?

Yes.  We are skilled at working with supplied materials or can use our global vendor relationships to locate hard to find or obsolete parts.

Can I save money by having a complete system built by MJS Designs or is it less expensive to outsource various elements?

This is a fairly common question in the industry.  Certainly, there are many positive aspects to having a complete project with one vendor who can over see every detail and expedite turn -around times.  Plus, we can reduce your shipping and handling costs and provide you with one point of contact.  This saves countless hours on your end.

I have developed a new product and need to speak to an engineer about developing the plans and testing the product. Do you do that?

Yes.  We have a team of engineers who work with independent product developers along with R&D departments of larger companies.

What CAD software tools do you have?

We keep the most up-to-date versions of
CAD Tools:
– Siemens EDA PADS Layout (Mentor PADS)
– Siemens EDA Xpedition Layout (Mentor Expedition)
– Cadence Allegro Expert

What type of information do I need to submit for a preliminary quote?

In general, the more detail you can provide the more comprehensive and complete the quote process will be. We always need to know quantities and your required turn-time.

For Design projects:
Block diagram or schematic
Bill of materials

Assembly:
Assembly drawing (helpful but not required)
Bill of materials

Flying Probe:
Ascii file
Bill of materials
Schematic

Procurement:
Bill of materials

When producing printed circuit boards, do I need to supply the schematic or can you develop that for me?

Yes on both accounts.  Our teams of designers are very skilled using a block diagram to create the design. In addition, we are able to work from customer supplied schematics.  We have even worked from hand drawings.

Why should I pay for testing of an assembly you did?

Great question.  There is a difference between quality control and test applications that assure functionality.  100% of assembly projects receive a visual inspection and a 3D X-ray inspection. Our test solution engineers can also conduct Flying Probe Tests, Boundary Scan and Functional testing based on the customer’s needs. These tests are highly specialized and provide in-depth information that truly reduces field failures and assures functionality and integrity.

Can I inspect my project myself at your location?

Yes. We have a source inspection room where you can inspect your boards on site, privately or with our staff available to answer your questions.

What is the minimum order for assembly projects?

There is no minimum.  MJS Designs is one of a handful of providers who can handle orders of one unit to thousands of units.  We can even take care of your prototype and production needs.

How fast can we turn around an order?

Its part of our industry reputation to provide quick-turn service. We have numerous projects that turned within 24 hours.  It simply depends on the project and the needs. If you need quick-turn, be sure to talk to our expert right away.
