Inner Struggle


My 6th poem for NaPoWriMo 2014 is about good versus evil. I haven’t done many religious themed poems, but felt it was fitting with Easter coming up. Religion aside, I think everybody can relate to having an inner struggle between good and bad. And that’s what today’s poem is about.

Inner Struggle

NaPoWriMo
Sitting in the pews,
Hearing the good news,
Trying to figure out the goal.
Satan in my ear,
Jesus coming near,
Both fighting for my soul.
Will I be good,
Like I know I should?
Or will I give in to my sin?
Will I be bad,
If it makes me glad?
I don’t know who will win.
It’s a struggle every day,
To keep evil at bay.
A tug of war in my heart.
Although in my mind,
I wish to be kind,
It’s been difficult from the start.
I want to do what’s right,
And accept the shining light.
But I feel stuck in the dark.
Two paths I can take.
One is real, one is fake.
Which quest will I embark?
