The IndigiNerds Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) stream funds students and supervisors working on cancer research and/or Indigenous health research. In addition to biological or cell-based research, the Canadian Cancer Society has identified a range of research areas pertaining to Indigenous cancer prevention and harm reduction i.e.IndigiNerds projects that intersect with Indigenous health and wellness. It is widely acknowledged that bolstering research endeavours aimed at improving Indigenous health and wellness significantly contributes to addressing the Indigenous cancer disparity and the ongoing battle against cancer.
The IndigiNerds Canadian Cancer Society Stream includes the possibility of extending an IndigiNerd’s research internship for an additional 8 weeks (July-August 2026) following successful completion of the first 8 weeks of the IndigiNerds Research Internship. A mutual decision between IndigiNerd student and supervisor on extending the research internship must be made by Week 7 of the program.
A section expressing your interest in applying to the IndigiNerds Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) stream is located in both supervisor and student applications. Please note, expressing your interest in the IndigiNerds CCS stream does not exempt you from being considered for the general IndigiNerds Research Internship program.Â
