Very relatable. I was raise in the Sunni branch of Islam. Have used the current month of holy ramadhan, on my own terms (while respecting the tradition), to tap into community, 'God Conciousness', and to think upon highest star possible.

The hole from losing 'God as purpose giver' is huge, and feels like it takes time to acclimate and develop a humanist/sentientism based purpose/meaning to act

Btw, very cool that you're able to still celebrate Ramadan on your own terms, so you can keep that cultural tie. I really like that.

Yeah it's funny, the more I have about this over the years, God is like a permission-giver to just try things you are drawn to. When I tried replacing God with utilitarianism or effective altruism (which I did for several years), I felt really unhappy constantly being aware that there was almost certainly a "better" thing I could be doing for the world, at all times.
