Yes, for various reasons, I am f-locking my journal.
Comment here, and I'll most likely friend you. General rule--must be over 18. (Or whatever the age of majority is in your country.)
Most of my fiction is remaining unlocked. So if that's all you want, don't worry.

So, since I had to hunt down my own fic the other day, I figured I should probably make a master post. XD
I'm pretty sure my Sentinel stuff is lost forever, as it probably should be. If you're really interested in finding it what I wrote when I was 14/15... good luck to you. My Yu-Gi-Oh stuff is over at my ff.net account, same name. Unbeta'd. (And most of the HP stuff there is unbeta'd too.) My YJ stuff is under a sock. I'm not posting it under this account.
( Glee and most of my HP stuff under hereCollapse )

So... I was looking at something else Bea Arthur was in, then found this, and so I had to watch it. This show is 35 years old, and even if you don't watch all three parts, you should watch this one, because it's hilarious, and relavent, and WATCH IT!
I made a mistake on the family tree thingy. Milcah is married to Nachor and is the daughter of Haran, not the other way around. Doesn't really change much.
( Isaac, Rebecca, Jacob, and EsauCollapse )

So, I think I want to do a series, let me know what you think. These are the families in the Bible. I'm starting at the beginning here. Don't know how far this will go.
Because I need to say this. I am NOT anti-Bible or anti-religion really. I just figured this would be fun. I do think that if people are going to start screaming, "'Adam and Eve' not 'Adam and Steve'," they should know what it is they are defending. I was thinking about Abraham marrying his sister. And then I thought, no, it goes back further. And then I wanted to actually look at all of the families in the Tenach. I love Torah. Studying Torah is fun. And this is one way to study Torah for me.

Language means things.
I was just reading an article on NPR about this whole Chick-Fil-A nuggets-for-brains CEO, and what that's done for the company. This isn't really about that.
This is about this quote.
"Since we made that decision there has not been any dilution whatsoever in our business, and as you can see, shareholder value has increased significantly," Schultz said, citing revenue growth in the face of efforts like DumpStarbucks.com, led by pro-family organizations.
I want to talk about the last few words of that little sentence.
There is NOTHING pro-family in these organizations.
These organizations are anti-family.
Pro-family is pro loving, caring home. Where abuse doesn't happen. Where children are safe, nurtured, and healthy. Where children get the education and healthcare they need. Where parent(s) can focus on nurturing them in whatever the home deems important -- spiritual, body, soul, all of it... it's what makes a family grow up and together -- without having to worry about contracts and societal stupidity and bullying and basic human rights. THAT'S pro-family.
You know what ISN'T pro-family? Fighting constantly to destroy someone else's family.
These organizations aren't pro-family. That's like calling a megaphone a silencer.

Dear Target,
We need to have a talk. I love your store. I go there at least once a week. It's convenient, relatively inexpensive, you have most of what I need in one stop. But I have a complaint.
See, you have a lot of shirts. You have a lot of really cool graphic T-shirts, specifically. Many of which I would LOVE to spend money on and support you. My problem? They're men's shirts. I know, some women will wear men's shirts, no problem. But I really can't. They kind of choke me. There were Batman, Superman, and Beatles, Coke, Pepsi, Mountain Dew... all shirts I would have bought. Okay, maybe the superhero shirts are more for men than women -- I'm sure a quick poll of my friends who know comics would show more men than women who read those, but the Beatles? Really, I'm pretty sure they're gender-neutral. And I'm going to go out on a limb and say that soda is too. (In the past, there have been Super Grover shirts, Smurfs shirts, Kermit shirts, Dr. Seuss shirts. Nothing that particularly screams, "This is a MAN'S shirt.")
So I went to the women's graphic tee area. You know what you have that would fit me? Do you? A picture of a sunset and "Love is Beautiful". There were generic dolphins. There were rainbow butterflies. The few that had words on them were all variations on beautiful and love. Really, Target? REALLY?
Ugh.
Now, with sleep pants I'm a bit more flexible, but then I still have to go into the men's department to FIND them. For the record, the men get Cookie Monster, Star Wars, and Angry Birds. We get solid sleep pants, sometimes with lace. I want Cookie Monster sleep pants.
To sum up:
Men Men Women Women
(Online they have a few other shirts, it looks like, but I certainly have never seen any of these at the actual store.)

Surgery is at really early on Wednesday morning. We have to get there at 6. Happy pi day to us. Or something. Kyle is seemingly okay with everything right now. So am I. So is Chris... so far.
Mother is coming in on Monday. I'm doing marathon sessions with all of my students tomorrow and Monday to make sure everyone is as caught up and ready as they can possibly be before I take off ~two weeks. She's going to watch the girls then take them back with her to Oregon over their spring break so we can just concentrate on Kyle, then they get to fly back all by themselves. (DD's upset. She's never been away from me.)
Tuesday Kyle has blood tests and monitors and all sorts of pre-surgery things. Plus we get a tour of the hospital. Who hoo. And we have Kahlan's birthday. In short, I probably won't be around much. If you need me, the hospital DOES have wifi, and I'll probably be on the computer and my phone and doing anything I can to distract myself.
I need a book. Or ten. I read the Otherland series last time he had surgery. I think maybe I'll make a trip to Barnes and Noble on Monday on the one day the kids are in school.

Do you love or hate Valentine’s Day?
I left this as a response to someone else's response, but I figure it can stand on its own. I'm actually kind of 'meh' about it, except for one thing.
Non-parents don't know what the worst thing about Valentine's Day is.
The worst thing about Valentine's Day, at least when you have kids in elementary school, is supervising addressing of cards.
Because when you have multiple kids, in multiple grades, with multiple classmates, they can't just give one or two friends a card or candy. They have to give every. single. kid. in their class a card. And they all have to be individually addressed. And their names have to be spelled right.
When you have one kid in kindergarten this takes a week. You split it up into five cards a day, and supervise each painstakingly letter. (Buy extra cards, there will be mistakes.)
When you have three kids in different grades, make sure the lists don't get mixed up. The fourth-grader might be okay on his own. The first-grader less so. (Actually, my first-grader is fine, it's my third-grader that needs to be watched CONSTANTLY.) And make sure you get a class list with the correct spelling of the kids' names, because "Jonathan" has a silent Q in it. Really.

Which team are you rooting for?
What is your Chinese zodiac animal?
Well, I'm a rooster. But for a long time on placemats at Chinese restaurants they would put the zodiac on there, and they didn't put rooster, they put cock. So I remember asking my dad and stepmother at a Chinese one time, "What's a cock?"
And my dad sort of sputtered on his drink before asking me why. And I said, "Because this thing says 1981 is a cock. So I'm a cock."
And he looked down and said, "Oh, rooster."
I think the placemats, when they do them now, say rooster instead of cock. Which saves some people embarrassment, I guess.
Kyle's a Horse
Kahlan's a Goat
Delenn's a Cock, just like me. ;)
