However, while I was still writing this story, a bunch of promo pictures for Catching Fire came out, and as soon as I saw this, I knew I was going to use it for this fic, because I picture Haymitch and Lucilla looking exactly like this on every stop of Haymitch's Victory Tour. :(
Title: Reinventing Gaius Baltar Author: millari Characters: Gaius Baltar, Sharon Valerii, Karl 'Helo' Agathon Rating: G Beta: Thank you, as always, the lovely trovia! Summary: Fate has never given Gaius anything, other than a brilliant mind. A/N: Written for Inspiration Day at bsg_epics. The prompt was to write about the moment in the Miniseries when Gaius considers betraying an old woman's trust and stealing her place on the last Raptor off Caprica. ( Dare he do it?Collapse )
Title: Sit With Me, Muchacho Author: millari Characters: Mags, Haymitch Abernathy Rating: G Warnings: none Beta: trovia Summary: “Do you tell them to target my tributes? Is that it? The weak, underfed ones? The easy targets from District Twelve?” A/N: This started out as a reward ficlet for trovia, for working on her dissertation. She also supplied the beta and title. Thanks! A/N 2: Crossposted on AO3 here
Title: More Than One Way To Die Author: millari Fandom: A Song of Ice and Fire Characters: Sandor Clegane (the Hound), references to Ayra Stark, the Tickler, Polliver Warnings: None Beta:wyrdwritere A/N: This was written a long time ago, in 2007, for Yuletide. I just rediscovered it, thanks to daybreak777 recently asking me about it, so I have her to thank for me not losing it, as it wasn't even on my hard drive anymore!
Title: Lies Are Fair in Love and War Author:millari Characters: Kat, Peeta, Haymitch, Effie, OMC Pairings: Kat/Peeta, Haymitch/OMC Rating: R Spoilers:The Hunger Games series Beta:trovia Warnings: References to forced prostitution and nonconsensual sex acts, all in the past and off screen. Summary: Peeta and Haymitch have a plan to save Kat. An unexpected visitor from Haymitch's past suddenly makes that plan possible, but his help might come at a cost. Notes: Slight AU, in that it treats as untrue a statement Haymitch makes in Mockingjay and takes that as a jumping off point for the fic; otherwise very canon compliant with the first book.
Title: Our House Author: millari Characters: Felix Gaeta, Louis Hoshi, Athena, Karl Agathon, Cottle, various OCs Pairings: Gaeta/Hoshi, Athena/Helo Rating: PG Warnings: none Beta: This fic was lovingly shepherded by the awesome daybreak777. Summary: Gaeta and Hoshi get much more than they bargained for when they adopt a child on New Earth. A/N: Written for the bsg_remix in 2010. I realized I had never posted it in my own journal, so I'm doing that for posterity. It's a remix of kappamaki33's ficlet, Mr. Gaeta Builds His Dream House. (Kappa, if you see this and know where to find an active link to your ficlet, let me know and I'll link it. I looked for 45 minutes on your journal and gaeta_squee and could not find a link anywhere except on the header to my remix fic, and that link no longer works.) ( I just didn't think this would come up so soon,” Louis sighed. But he felt himself giving in already.Collapse )
Title: Experimentation Author: millari Characters: Baltar, Gaeta, implied Starbuck Pairing: Gaeta/Baltar Rating: PG Warnings: None Wordcount: 811 Summary: “No, Gaius,” he raises his eyebrows and says with a little too much emphasis, but it should get the job done. “She's not really my type, if you know what I mean.” Author's Note: Done for the bsg_epicsShipper War Challenge. ( New Beginnings and Brighter TomorrowsCollapse )
Title: Admit Nothing Author: millari Characters: Baltar, Roslin, Billy, Four, implied Shelley Godfrey Pairings: None Wordcount: 2221 Rating: G Warnings: none A/N: This is inspired by my observations of the episode, “Six Degrees of Separation” that Baltar admits in front of Adama, Tigh and Gaeta that he believes that they should not be able to actually see Shelley Godfrey. Yet none of them ever remark on this, which struck me as strange. ( Admit NothingCollapse )

So here's the part of the Yuletide letter where I usually say: "First of all, thanks so much for being willing to write me a fic." And I do mean that. But mostly, what I want to say to you this year is: HAVE FUN WITH IT.
This is a challenge, and there's of course the expectation that you will try to write something compatible with my wishes, but really, I signed up to have fun with writing in a fandom I don't usually, and I think you should feel free to have fun too. Do not get too stressed out about whether I'll like your fic or not.
So pay attention to my prompts, my likes and dislikes if they help you come up with an idea, but if you have a great idea already, go with it and don't worry too much about what I wrote down on my submission or what I write here.
THAT BEING SAID:
If you want to know more about my fic kinks, I do write some fic, mostly in the new Battlestar Galactica (2003) fandom. My fic journal is well, here, at http://www.millarific.livejournal.com.
As you'll see if you look around here, I love slash, but I'm not opposed to het or gen. I love porn, and kinky porn too, but I really don't go too much for porn without plot. I don't mean that I need my porn to have plot in the sense of "people die, things go boom!", but I would like it to be plotty in the sense that it tells me something about the characters and how they relate to each other, even if you're writing fluff. It doesn't have be something momentous either, but just an observation about a character or a relationship is nice.
I love pretty much all kink, so if you're someone who likes to write it, all the power to you, but it's important to me that the kink involve trust and good will on the part of both partners. Both sides should be getting what they want, even if it hurts. ;) But I'm also a big fan of angst, so I'm not even opposed to one side not getting quite what they want, but it shouldn't be out of someone's deliberate malice, and it should be portrayed in a negative or tragic light. I don't want to be inside the POV of someone who's gleefully trampling over someone else, that's all I'm saying.
Oh, and just a couple of no-nos: please no humiliation of characters, no true non-con, (dubcon is okay) and please, even in affection or as a turn-on, no writing on someone's body or clothes. Thank you.
Okay, back to fun stuff! Fic tropes I love include people looking to connect with others, or being isolated from their social circle and not knowing how to break in, or a fall from grace that the person has to deal with. I love stories about people having to pick up the pieces after a traumatic event, which could also include something like amnesia or mental health problems. I'm fascinated by looking at power dynamics in romantic relationships, and I must admit I have a slight kink for fics involving pining and unrequited love, especially if it's from the POV of the person who isn't in love and you look at how they handle being the object of someone's affection.
I love introspective, emotional and relationship fics, but I'm also a big fan of fun, plotty fics where characters are taken out of their comfort zone quite suddenly and have to figure out ways to solve problems, negotiate deals, sneak around, rescue people, etc. Better yet if their very survival is at stake. Post-apocalyptic scenarios are great examples of the kind of plotty stuff I love. I'm also a sucker for youngsters suddenly finding themselves without adult guardians and having to learn to survive on their own. I don't really write all this stuff much, but I love to read it.
Finally, I'm also a big fan of "deleted scenes" fics, or fics that show pre or post-canonical info, so please do play in those sandboxes if you want. If writing a crossover with a fandom that really speaks to you would help, here are some other fandoms I’m interested in, in no particular order: Battlestar Galactica 2003, Firefly, Doctor Who, Torchwood, Babylon 5, Lost, Deep Space Nine, A Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones series, Discworld, Dead Like Me, Boston Legal, Leon/The Professional, the Dune novels, Sports Night, Jeeves & Wooster (the books or the series), Galaxy Quest, Castle, Chuck. Or any other of the fandoms I requested this year A good piece of writing comes when the writer is inspired, and I’ll be glad to get a fic you enjoyed doing.
Okay, so hopefully all that helps. Any further questions, I respectfully direct you to my girlfriend, trovia, who knows my fic interests well and could give you advice.
Title: Reprieve Author: millari Rating: NC-17 Characters: Laura Roslin, Maya, Gaius Baltar, Caprica Six Pairings: Roslin/Maya, Caprica/Baltar Warnings none Word Count: 1700 Beta: The incredible fast and thorough lorrainemarker. Thank you, Lorraine. Summary: “He was going to appear at her tent like a stray dog that had been kicked too many times, and Laura would give him nothing.” A/N: This was intended to be for the bsg_kink weekly Friday Night Fun, due to some prodding by geekbynight, so it is dedicated to her. The prompt was: Baltar/Roslin/Maya - voyeurism
Title: Cuckoo's Egg Author: millari Rating: G Wordcount: 921 Warnings: description of childbirth Summary: Caprica thinks this may hurt more than anything she's ever experienced. More than the terrorists blowing up that parking garage, more than Doral shooting in her head, even. A/N: This is part of an AU 'verse in which Baltar left New Caprica with the Cylons and stayed, going on to have a committed relationship with Caprica Six on the basestar. The two of them have a hybrid daughter, called Seven. This is about her birth.
Title: Good Faith Authors:millari and trovia Fandoms: Battlestar Galactica 2003/Torchwood Characters: Gaeta, Owen, Jack, Dee, Cottle, Ishay Wordcount: 2900 words Beta: Thank you very much, sphinxvictorian Summary:”Ships don't run on bloody Chinese takeout, you know.” Warnings: None Authors' Notes: It should be stated for the record that almost every line in this story was fought about viciously. A few had us paralyzed by laughter. Others, by tears. Also, trovia almost broke her fingers trying to type on that bloody (!) American keyboard that had somehow found its way to Germany past customs. Just so you know.
