Microsoft SQL Server R2 Native Client is a stand-alone data access component from Microsoft Corporation that combines the SQL Server OLE DB provider and the SQL Server ODBC driver in a single, native Windows package. It enables applications to connect to Microsoft SQL Server with high performance and full support for SQL Server 2008 and 2008 R2 features, while maintaining backward compatibility with SQL Server 2005.
Designed for both ODBC and OLE DB developers, it supports capabilities such as Multiple Active Result Sets (MARS), table-valued parameters, newer SQL Server data types (including XML and enhanced date/time types), query notifications, integrated Windows authentication, connection encryption, and connection pooling. Available in both 32-bit and 64-bit editions, it can be installed side-by-side with other data access components and is commonly redistributed with legacy or line-of-business applications that target these SQL Server versions.
Note: Microsoft SQL Server Native Client is deprecated. For new development, Microsoft recommends using the Microsoft ODBC Driver for SQL Server or the Microsoft OLE DB Driver for SQL Server.
