Microsoft Picture It! was a consumer-oriented photo editing and creative project application for Windows, developed by Microsoft. Introduced in the late 1990s and popular through the early 2000s, it was designed for home users who wanted an easy way to import, enhance, and share photos without professional editing experience.
The software offered guided editing tools and one-click fixes—such as red-eye removal, cropping, straightening, and color/exposure adjustments—along with retouching brushes, filters, text, and effects. It included a large library of templates and clip art for creating projects like greeting cards, calendars, photo albums, and collages, with built-in wizards for printing and email sharing. Picture It! supported common image formats and used a proprietary .MIX format for saving layered projects. It was often bundled with Microsoft Works Suite and consumer PCs. The product line later evolved into Microsoft Digital Image and has since been discontinued and is no longer supported.
