Are the [post] and [posts] tags synonyms?

I noticed that here on Meta, there is both a post tag (2 questions[1], no usage guidelines) and a posts tag (43 questions, with usage guidelines). The questions tagged post look like the would well fit into the posts tag, so I would recommend merging these two, or adding usage guidelines to post in order to prevent unintended use.
