Google Messages

Google Messages is Google's official text messaging app, which leverages the RCS (Rich Communication Services) standard to keep its hundreds of millions of users connected. For those who may not be familiar, this standard basically replaces the classic SMS and MMS. Thanks to RCS, you can, among other things, share high-resolution photos or participate in group chats, even incorporating friends who have an iPhone.

For Google users only

In order to use Google Messages, you need a Google account and will be required to log in with your email address. Of course, you will also need a phone number. You can add your phone number from the Advanced Options menu at the very bottom. From this same menu, you can also choose whether you want to automatically download all MMS images or if you want to convert iPhone users' reactions into normal emojis. Since it is linked to your Google account, you can even use the app on a tablet or smartwatch.

Optional integration with Gemini

Although Google's AI can be disabled, by default Google Messages allows you to integrate Gemini within the app to manage your messages more efficiently. Gemini's main goal is to save you time when reading and responding to text messages, but if it's not something you want, you can easily disable it. Just go to Messages Settings and, once there, tap "Gemini in Messages." There, simply uncheck the "Show Gemini Button" tab. And that's all there is to it.
