멀린게임은 나사의 직원이었던 밥도일 등이 창안한 게임으로, 1978년 미국의 장난감 회사 파커 브라운사에 의해 휴대형 게임기로 출시되어 500만개 이상 판매된 바 있는 게임입니다.
서울과학기술대학교의 김병수교수가 행렬의 개념을 활용하여 기존 게임을 확장한 새로운 멀린게임을 제안하였고, 이를 바탕으로 그 동생인 프로그래머 김병철이 만들었습니다.
멀린게임은 3*3으로 배열된 9장의 카드를 정해진 게임방법에 따라 카드를 뒤집어서 목표와 같은 색깔의 배치를 만드는 퍼즐게임입니다.
게임방법 1에서는
(1) 네 귀퉁이에 있는 카드를 터치하면 그 주위의 네장의 카드 색이 변한다.
(2) 네 변의 중앙에 있는 카드를 터치하면 그 변의 세장의 카드 색이 변한다.
(3) 정중앙의 카드를 터치하면 그 카드 상하좌우의 카드 색이 변한다.
게임방법 2에서는
(1) 네 귀퉁이에 있는 카드를 터치하면 그 주위의 세장의 카드 색이 변한다.
(2) 네 변의 중앙에 있는 카드를 터치하면 그 변의 세장과 정중앙의 카드 색이 변한다.
(3) 정중앙의 카드를 터치하면 그 카드와 네 귀퉁이의 카드 색이 변한다.
Merlin game was invented by former NASA employee Bob Doyle and his friends. Parker Brothers, an American toy and game manufacturer, launched a handheld electronic game to play Merlin game in 1978. It was very popular, selling over 5 million units.
Prof. ByungSoo Kim of SEOUL NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY proposed modified Merlin game introducing the concept of mathematical matrix, and his brother who is a computer programmer made as application.
